New Update to the 3CX SBC Boosts Performance

Any chance to get Ubuntu support one day ?

We still have a few users who run a Linux Desktop (Ubuntu) and instead having a central "single point of failure" SBC ( i.e. Raspi ), I could think of these people run their own local SBC on their box and so can run their preferred Linux VOIP client while take advantage of the SBC tunnel to the cloud PBX. This would also work from their home or being on the road.

Wouldn't that be cool ? Or just put the SBC source on Git and let the community fix it :)

Just a thought
Dieter

Ubuntu no for now.
just go to debian.org and spin up a free debian 9 and in 2 minutes you get your sbc.

SBC is not designed to run on "their box" because sip proxies don't work like this.

To have 1 sbc per extension is total overkill and defeats the purpose of having 1 sip alg rewriter to get your remote office working.

Save the trouble of git. if you want to fix something, scrap the sbc concept since you want to change the dynamics of how we designed it to work, get a proper sip client and configure it to use TCP and TLS and you might actually not require the use of the sbc at all.

Thanks for the answer.

"To have 1 sbc per extension is total overkill....."

How much would that be different to all the 3CX Clients ( IOS .. Mac ) setting up their own tunnel to the PBX ? Cannot see why it should be more overkill than what they do.

Running another Debian in a VM on a exiting Ubuntu system, just to get the SBC running is more overkill I'd think.

The logic that tunnels SIP and RTP which is embedded in the client is NOT an SBC. It is Like an SBC but it is not and it is extremely stripped down, carefully embedded inside the clients core. So you cannot compare them really.

The connections only can be compared server side and the server is already ready to handle hundreds of connections so the bottle neck is not there.

And yes - absolutely - Running Debian on an ubuntu is not only overkill but just completely lame.

Can you get a computer, or old laptop or something, Put it in that network, Put debian on it, Run the SBC there and all the clients connect to that proxy? We don't have Ubuntu installation so I mean - we have to stop preaching to the deaf.

OR

Get a linux client softphone, configure it using TCP and use that with 3CX. Without SBC.

Technically if you have proper networking configured, static pbx ip, and port forwarding configured you dont even need the sbc. Personally if i were in your shoes, I would first try the Tcp option and see if this will work instead of going to the manufacturer asking for another linux flavor for the software.

Making SBC on Ubuntu is easy yes. But who is going to maintain it? And who is going to support it? Updates for it. etc.

Absolutely.
We guarantee MUCH MUCH LESS SSH logins or remote assistance with this version. Try it and you will see.
We collected all the ssh complaints and did the same exercise we did in the PBX to reduce ssh logins.

Not everything was done - we split it in parts. Now part 2 will contain intelligent sbc and remote management from 3CX Management console. That update will be awesome.. Early 2018 we will try guys..

@nickybrg

I will admit after deploying this to a test set of 100 sites our issue reports have down a staggering 81% (yes we log this sort of stuff through our ticketing system).

All of our sites are hosted via OVH and running pi's.

Bravo 3cx, we are seriously grateful of that!

Also, awesome to hear about that update in 2018. It will be huge for us volume based re sellers. Our model is based on the recurring revenue of us adding value with trunks and support. The less BS tech issues we are dealing with, the more we make and the happier the clients are. That's a win-win.

This update alone has had a improvement on that.

Most sincere thanks. This has played a big role in our decision to go exclusive with 3cx for 2018.

Keep with your model of supporting 1 release for 1 os, as a larger (than most on here) sized company we have learned that lesson already. Its the only way to be able to invest all your resources into moving the product forward. Hard to appreciate that until you have teams upon teams supporting something because people cant update something.

We agree with 3cx's philosophies here.

Edit: Apologies for the delayed response, we needed data over a period of time before exclaiming how well this has worked.

Thanks for the heads up OCWI - really nice and refreshing for me and the team to read your nice words...!

Installed the lastest version of SBC. Now I have extensions randomly dropping their registrations and then re-registered a minute or so later.

Moving past our test sites to mass deployement, the amount of trouble tickets has plummeted.

We owe everyone at 3cx a round of drinks!

Most sincere thanks for this!

@Nick Galea

The pleasure is mine. We are genuinely grateful for what you guys have done with that. There is a reason why 3cx is clearly the industry leader in software PBX. We will ensure 3cx has solid market penetration in the midwest region by the end of 18'.
