Old samsung officeserv door phone

I have just installed a 3CX for a customer without knowing they have an old door phone and lock for the samsung office serv, what is recommended for the 3cx and using the old lock i am not sure what voltage works for the old door phone lock and what i could replace it with

Hi Billy,

It depends on what type of door lock they use.

If (for example) they are using an analog device that you simply call, and dial a code to open the door ie. "1234" then you could potentially connect it using a Grandstream HT-801 analog FXS device.

If on the other hand it is some other custom solution, you could use a Fanvil PA2 (which has door lock triggers) and when you call it you can send it a key code to trigger the door relay.

You really need to look into what the customer has currently before you know whether you can convert it or you could potentially replace the entire thing with a SIP based doorphone like the ones you can see here

Hi at the moment they have a button that just rings the Samsung officeserv old pbx with has a key programmed to open the door and send a signal to open the door, this is not DTMF tone it's a voltage I belive

If the signal that opens the door is operated with a push button not actually connected through the current Samsung system, then it might be able to be left as is. If the push button at the front door connects to the Samsung, and rings an extension, then it might be possible to connect to an ATA (as suggested), if it is an analogue phone line. The ATA could be programmed to "speed dial" an extension, when it goes off hook.

There are a lot of unknown variables, with the current system. You might be better off replacing with a 3CX compatible door phone altogether. That should be able to operate a set of contacts, to send the proper voltage (possibly supplied by the current power supply), to release the door strike.

You should really look at the hardware itself, follow the cabling from the electric door release and see where it ends up. There should be a "control box" somewhere that powers the door lock.

You then need to see what else is connected to that control box:

- does it have an analog phone line? (use an HT-801 in this case)
- does it have wires going directly into the old Samsung system? (use a Fanvil PA2)
- does it have a name/model so you can look it up? (to learn the type of trigger signal it wants from the PA2)
