On 15.5.15502.6 with 3CX supplied FQDN, have to upgrade?

Vendor contacted us about SSL cert expiring - I think they are just trying to sell us something new. We are on 15.5.15502.6 with a FQDN ending in 3CX.US - the cert has been renewing automatically, with the current one about to expire 10/23/2020. Do we *have* to upgrade, or will cert renewal keep working?

I see the notes for 15.5.20000.6 say "Updated SSL certs" - so what happens if we don't upgrade to it?

If you're using a 3CX FQDN then your cert is managed by 3CX.

What they might be referring to is the certificate that talks to the 3CX activation servers which expires every 2 years. The new one for this is in a newer release of 3CX so I can only assume they're advising you that 3CX needs to be updated to the latest version.

So if the system is already activated, and the backend activation cert expires... As long as we don't move the system or change the hardware drastically then it will just stay activated and there is no urgency to upgrade???

To be blunt, this customer typically never upgrades because they are poor, have old linksys unsupported phones still on the system and don't like "new" features/changes.

While I understand the importance of upgrades, I can also sympathise that if you buy a license for something once upon a time, that same version should at least keep working or be re-activatable, without being forced into some kind of paid upgrade. Just cause the system was designed with some kind of "planned obsolencence" that it could no longer talk to the activation server seems like a jerk move to "force" the customer into an upgrade. If that is what 3cx has become, the really nobody is buying a license anymore, rather you are buying a subscription service for your locally installed software to keep working :-(
