Is there a way to only sync 0365 pictures and not create brand new extensions for people (or overwrite existing ones)?

I am starting to test out syncing o365 to 3cx and I am using myself as a test. In Settings, I have configured it to only sync the user photo and just for me only as a user. A few minutes later, I noticed o365 overwrote one of the existing extension's names and put my name in there. I don't want 3cx to create brand new extensions for people who already have an extension in 3cx

The 0002 extension was a test extension that was set up to test the T48S phones that we have around campus and it said VP Test as the name (until I synced with O365 and the name changed from VP Test to me. There are two other test extensions for other types of phones as well. I will add I did already have my email address listed on the 0002 extension.

Two screenshots I have attached are my O365 Sync settings page, and the two extensions for myself (my actual one is 4317, and the one 3cx overwrote 0002).

The Big Picture is to sync 0365 pictures only; allow users to sign in with O365, and sync Calendar to automatically change the user's 3cx status.

Can anybody help with this or guide me on what to do?

Hi there,

I'm afraid the answer here is no, the photo sync is part of the user sync one can be not achieved without the other.

To use the sync also requires that each user is configured with a unique email address, the user photo sync also requires that each user not only have a unique email address that is then reflected in the 3CX extensions but that the users are also licensed with an appropriate 365 license as per guide: https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/microsoft-365/

Ok, that's what I kind of thought. it uses the email address as the unique identifier. So, I removed my email address from that test extension, and it still modified the 0002 extension from one of my test extensions. See the below screenshot of what it looked like before O365 sync. It shows 0002 as a VP test with no email address, but after o365 it shows my name, email, and direct line like the screenshot in my previous post.

I have read through the article a few times, but I guess I am missing something here or do not understand how the process of syncing to O365 works. Why is it modifying an existing extension, and not creating a new one like it's supposed to do?

Once an extension is "bound", it's bound until deleted/recreated (officially)

So if I understand the other post correctly, the only way to resolve the issue is to delete the test extension I have and re-create that test extension? Then when a sync happens it will not modify that test extension with my information.

The reason I am asking is that I disabled 0365 sync, deleted my email address and name from that test extension, and changed the name back to what it was originally. I then re-enabled the sync, and it still switched the test extension back to my information.

That's the official way to do it.

Thanks, @SweetAction. Not ideal, but hopefully I won't have any other issues. Also, it would be nice if there was a way to just sync a group of users (such as FT employees) since our O365 contains students, FT employees, PT\Temp employees, etc without manually choosing one by one.
