Hi,

I am in Australia

I have recently obtained an Optus NBN connection with call.

I have managed to get the SIP information from the router and I can get incoming calls to 3CX but whenever I try to do outgoing calls, I get a timeout error.

Has anyone managed to get 3CX to work with Optus.

I am happy to provide more information on the settings that I have if that helps.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi @andrewheredia

From your description your router is SIP aware and intercepting SIP messages. The trunk might work on PBX but you need to make sure that your router is not interfering. Check if you can disable SIP on your router and try again. It might be worth contacting Optus and asking them if moving the trunk is actually possible.

Hi Yiannish,

Thanks for your reply.

You are correct. There is my optus router that I obtained the sip information for. What I did then was unplug it from my system so my tplink router is now plugged into the NBN.

So with this router I can get incoming calls but can't make outgoing.

I also use this router with another sip trunk and it works fine. So there's something with outbound calls that is not being verified I feel.

Any other suggestions that I could try?

Cheers

Andrew

Without knowing your provider requirements it is very hard to say what is wrong and what is needed for making this work. Perhaps you are sending the wrong IP or something needs tweaking in your outbound parameters. The provider should be able to clarify what is needed.
I would recommend using a supported provider to avoid manual configuration and guessing.

Hi Yiannish,

I have obtained my providers SIP information which I have included below. But some of the data I am unsure where to set it within 3CX as some of the terms do not correlate. If you could provide any insight that would be most appreciated.

Voip dial plan setting: xx+#|x+T|[*#]xx|000|106|183[1-2]

SIP Proxy: ims01.ipphone.optus.com.au
SIP Proxy Port: 0

Sip Outbound Proxy: 210.49.224.69
SIP Outbound Proxy Port: 5060

Secondary SIP Proxy: 210.49.225.69
Secondary SIP Proxy: 5060

SIP Registrar: ims01.ipphone.optus.com.au
SIP registrar Port: 0

Extension: +613xxxxxxxx
Display Name: 03xxxxxxxx
Authentication Name: +613xxxxxxxx
Password: xxxxxx
Codecs: G711ALaw > G.729A > G711MuLaw > G726_24 > G726_32 > PCMWIDEBAND

Enable V18 Support = Yes
Enable T38 Support = No

Registration Timeout = 3600
REgistration REply = 20
DSCP for SIP = EF 101110
DSCP for RTP = EF 101110
DTMF Relay = RFC2833
Hook Flash = None
SIP Transport = UDP
CID Signal Protocol = FSK
SRTP Config = Disabled

Conference URI: sip:[email protected]
Conference Option: ReferServer

Given the problem that I have been having with outgoing calls, I feel that I need to fix the outbound pattern.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

These are all things we usually deal with between us and the Providers during the interop process. From experience, I can tell you that as Yiannis said, most likely you need to adjust the Outbound Parameters somehow. Nobody except the provider can tell you how as this may be different from one provider to another.

From the information you provided, all I understand is the Registrar should be ims01.ipphone.optus.com.au, Proxy
210.49.224.69:5060, Auth ID +613xxxxxxxx and your password.

There's not a lot else we can suggest, unless you want to check the self-interop documentation we have:
https://www.3cx.com/blog/docs/voip-provider-interop-explained/
This should at least help you understand how things work in 3CX.

Or, go for what most users do, select a supported provider: https://www.3cx.com/partners/sip-trunks/

Thanks Nick and Yiannish for all your help.

I will check into this and see how I go and if I get it working i'll post it here to hopefully help others.

Thanks
