  • 3CX Version: Professional 8 S/C V: 18.0 (Build 314)
  • Server OS: Raspberry Pi on prem
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware version: 3CX Web/Windows/iOS client, softphone only
  • Provisioning method: SBC
  • Trunk Provider: Buroserv, BuroSIP unlimited
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: ?
  • Country Code: +61 (Australia)
  • Area Code: 7 (Queensland)

Calls received by customers show the wrong call location, it is supposed to show 'Mackay, Queensland' but instead shows 'MacKay, Queensland'. I have attached a screenshot of a call to my mobile number on my iPhone to demonstrate. I have called my Trunk provider and they blamed my 3CX configuration, I have looked everywhere and cannot find somewhere to configure this and scoured as much of the forum as possible.

Your provider is stupid. The location is obtained from the database. Each number has a location associated (it's rate center usually) and that is not configurable via 3CX.

Even the provider usually needs to send that to their backend ILEC.

I'm looking at what you say it should show, and what you get, at it looks the same to me.

If a terminating provider is, in fact, sending a name to your phone, it can originate with the caller (PBX), or come from a database. If it is taken from a database, then it may be obtained by the originating provider (or it is a name you gave them to send), or the terminating provider obtains it.

The name can also be taken from the personal directory on your phone, which can override any name sent. If you receive calls from some other numbers , from the same area, do you sometimes receive the same name?

I know that in North America, if a name is not available, with a number, then the terminating provider will sometimes attach a "generic" name indicating the state or province of origination based on the area code. Which seems to be the case with your call.

Is MacKay a location, or the name of your company?

If the name is not configured to be sent in 3CX then its probably something the provider adds. Check the activity log to see exactly what the PBX is sending out if you are not sure if you added somewhere in the PBX or not.
You could also call a number on a different device and see if you replicate this.
If the PBX is not sending it and the device is not the issue then its being added somewhere in the middle. It could also be an upstream provider that does this.

The name shows up on multiple mobiles, I have tested Telstra, Vodaphone and Optus services, so I know that the info is getting sent before that.

Mackay is the name of a town.

I wasn't sure where this would be sent from, here is a screenshot of my activity log in verbose mode when making a call to the same mobile number as my original post. For security I have removed the last 4 digits of phone numbers and my public IP address.

I see one persons name, in the first line of the posted log. I don't see why, as a business you'd intentionally send a name of the city and state when you could (provider permitted) send your company name. This is why I'm assuming it is being added along the way.

I'm still not clear, what is not correct (how is it meant to be spelled, if that is the issue?) about the place name being sent. Is it that you want a persons, or your company name sent instead?

If that is the case, then it is either your 3CX SIP provider, or perhaps your terminating (mobile?) provider. What name is sent if you call to a landline, with call display?

I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of caller ID in Australia other than they do use Bellcore type CID (modified?) which does allow for name display on PSTN lines. I wasn't aware they were even offering it.

In Australia, I do not believe we are allowed to show the company name in that text line. Buroserv (trunk provider) or maybe me have mis-capitalised the location as MacKay, Queensland instead of Mackay, Queensland.

I am guessing the same @leejor is referring to is your extension name and has nothing to do with the issue. From the Bye message coming from the provider I do not see any name included. The BYE message would reflect what was sent by the PBX.
So your provider is probably adding that and has misspelled it.

Thanks for the help everyone! Looks like I need to call Buroserv when they open tomorrow morning.
