Maybe I'm loosing my mind but in the past I could reprovision a phone and neither the AuthPassword (web client), or the SrvcAccessPwd (sip) passwords would be automatically regenerated.

But this time around I reprovisioned 2 phones and not only did these passwords change but the changed to a much longer password, from 10 to 24 characters.

Did I just never notice this before?
Did something change in a software update?
Is someone with admin access playing games and changed a setting someplace?

Thanks

The credentials should not be regenerated unless you actually hit the "Regenerate" button in the extensions section. Also, all credentials should have a length of 10 characters

Are you saying that, by simply re-provisioning a device from within the Management Console >> Phones section, the device's credentials get regenerated? If yes, are these changes reflected in the Management Console under Extensions >> Edit >> Phone Provisioning, as well?

Please also provide more info as mentioned here: https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/information-to-provide-when-requesting-help.67558/

Yes, that's what I'm saying.
Details: I was moving the phones to a new SBC.
- I changed the IP address of the SBC for each phone (2 of about 12) in Extensions
- I go into the Phones tab, check mark the 2 phones and click reprovision.
- The phones reprovision and work fine but the user can no longer access the web client.
- I resend the welcome email and it now shows a 24 character password, it was 10 before, logon works with the new password.

I export the extensions and of all the extensions only the 2 I reprovisioned have 24 character passwords for AuthPassword and SrvcAccessPwd

Is it possible I hit regenerate instead of reprovision? I don't think so, I use reprovision all the time and haven't used the regenerate at all. But would regenerate use a 24 character password when we've been using 10? Is there even a place we can set this?

  • 3CX Version, Enterprise Annual 16.0.7.1078
  • Server OS, Debian 9
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? Hosted
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware Yealink T48G
  • Provisioning Method: Local / VPN / STUN / SBC SBC
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model Flowroute
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO

Can you replicate this at will? Meaning, can you re provision any device and get the same result? Is there any chance your using a Browser extension that generated credentials for you automatically while you were editing the said extensions?

If you can replicate it at will, try again while in incognito mode and all browser extensions disabled.

I think you may be on to something there. I tried it in incognito and it was fine. So I did some checking and found that Gatekeeper pushed out an update to their extension, to fix a bug where it wouldn't populate a password when it was supposed to. Looks like they over did the fix.

Nice catch.
