One of our clients has the following request. They want the administration of the company to have some personal phone book except the global contact list, which is accessible by all extensions. Is there any possibility to have their own, personal contact lists (phone books) in 3CX also?

you can store your personal contacts on webclient or on deskphone if available, nothing from PBX.

Hi aws2p!

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I can. But if the phone is reprovisioned, because they may change a BLF button or any other setting, would the device loose these contacts?

not sure as i don't use on deskphone , but most probably a factory reset delete contact entries, perhaps need to see in phone GUI if it's possible to save an external file and import after factory reset is done.

But even it's a way, you need to don't forget saving the file first to factory reset.

Hi again!

I would like to thank you for your answers, I really appreciate your efforts to provide a solution. I already have made backups of all the IP phones, but restoring the backup after reprovisioning will also bring the old settings on the IP phone.

For example, if the client maintains the BLF button in 3CX and we have a personal phone book on the IP phone itself, we should backup the phone device before we reprovisioning it from 3CX. Then we will reprovision the device and will get the new/updated BLF buttons, but then the phone book is lost. Now it’s the moment to restore the settings on the IP phone from the backup file we took just before. We restore, but then we lose the new (or updated) BLF buttons that were provisioned by 3CX. So, it’s a pointless circle.

Of course that example doesn’t stand if the device doesn’t loose the phone book when reprovisioned. I will run my tests about that and I will let you know.

BLF are saved in extension settings so you can push this by provisioning the phone, if you backup the phone , do a factory reset, import the backuped file, then do a 3CX provisioning with new BLF set , this is not working properly ?

Not sure... I will test it and I will update this thread soon.

Thanks a lot!

Hi aws2p!

I just tested a Yealink T58A. I saved a contact locally on the device and then I provisioned the device, after changing a BLF button in 3CX. Provision completed without losing the local contacts!

So that’s a solution on the request we have. Thank you so much!
