Let's say there is still room for improvement. I tested several webpages with the goal to find out if it is understandable and generally usable by our users. I habe to say our company is residing in Germany, so some this may be different to U.S.A. or somewhere else in the world.
Here some examples of my findings:
I noticed this text on a Microsoft doc site is marked as telephone number and converted into a link:
https://docs.microsoft.com/de-de/onedrive/per-machine-installation
Sync app build 19.174.0902.0013 or later.
Because this irritated me I looked on a typical company page in U.S.A. and found this variant of typing a phone number:
https://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/98/campaigns/contact-us-phone-number
First, both numbers would not lead to a callable number in the 3cx web client - at least in Germany:
As you see, the leading zeroes or the plus sign for international calls is missing. So simple conversion of any probable phone number to a link is not a solution.
Second, and more difficult to solve is a better algorithm to detect phone numbers or better to have less false positives like the build numbers above. Sure, if you hover the mouse over the klink you see that it's leading to the 3CX web client but on the first sight it's a link to details of this build.
How does it work, will any numbers > n and <= 15 digits excluding any separators be presented as link?
