polycom 501 rj45

Hello all: Wondering if using one cat 5e to connect my computer and polycom 501 together can cause a slow down or degrade voice quality of phone system.

I do not use VOIP only pstn but can the voice quality still decrease.

i'm trying to avoid running an additional line just for the phone system.

I understand the advantage of running a dedicated line for the 501 is I can have the switch prioritize voice traffic.

In our tests we've seen no difference. Until we move into our new office, all of our phones are connected using the same connection as the desktop PC.

We've tested with Linksys, Snom, and Grandstream.

We have one VoIP line that we using sparingly, and an AudioCodes PSTN Gateway for most of our traffic.
