Polycom SPIP550 Speakerphone Quality Help

I am provisioning a couple of Polycom SPIP550 phones on our 3CX network, and in testing I find that the speakerphone sounds horrible to other callers.

I am using the Polycom SPIP550 (4.x.x) firmware on v12.

Does anyone know if this is a common complaint for this model phone, or is there something that I can change in either the phone or in 3CX to improve the quality?

What audio codec are you using? It's best to avoid G.729 if bandwidth isn't an issue. I've been using the Polycom 650s using G.722 and the speakerphone works fantastic. Even the lesser model 331 speakerphone sounds great with G.711u. Other parties usually don't realize we're on speakerphone.
