inside this gateway there is an option to set the prefered codec order - the default is outlined below.

The first two are the G711 (U & A) codecs and will give the best voice quality, they also consume the most "bandwidth". The only reason to use others is compatibility, or, to conserve bandwidth, if that is an issue. Within a LAN, that is usually not an issue, and you do want the best quality sound, so I would leave it as is, or at least leave the first two in place.

I have run into issues passing DTMF tones (audible), when not using G711 codecs.
