Good day.
I have inherited management of a system and am trying to understand about Departments.
The system is setup with a default department as well as multiple other departments, of which there is varying memberships assigned.

If I understand right:
UserA - is in Default and also Accounts and Sales Department.
UserB - is in Default and in Accounts.
If UserB has supervisor access can they see all the calls that UserA has against their name, and can they also hear all the recordings that UserA has against them on the basis that they are both in Default?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Thanks for the reply, its not so much that its more a case of gaining a better understanding of the Departments for me I think.
I noted that it is recommended that people are only a member of a single department, the issue I have with the setup of the site I am looking at is that there are many people in multiple departments as well as what appears to be membership of the default department by every user.

Hi there,

I am in pretty much in the same boat as you. Inherited a pbx system on-prem from a colleague. Safe to say, when I started looking into things I almost fell out of my chair with the amount of nonsense that they did.
All users are part of the default department and additionals. When I introduced department admins I ran into the same problem and the only solution is painstakingly go through all users or export all extensions (sadly only exports the main dep of an ext) filter and remove where needed.

AFAIK that is the main reason why it's recommended to only allocate a single department per extension, otherwise you will possibly grant unwanted access to queues, IVR etc. in other departments.

As I am reading it, and from an initial safeguard I have deselected Show call recording on the sensitive users (Owner and head of HR) like so:

I think the next thing I would need to do to remove the possibility of cross department managers having access to other department manager recordings would be to remove all the users from the "default" department. My concern of this would be what am I potentially removing from their accounts by doing this.
If anyone can advise, gratefully appreciated.

Hey,
that depends on your set up, integrations, SIP trunk configuration and thus hard to say for the uninitiated.
I would suggest you have a look at "Outbound Rules" and make sure you don't cut off your users from making calls to external numbers. Also you should have a look at your Admin->Dashboard, so you know the partner you bought the license from. Depending on your contract, they could be offering more suitable support for your Installation.
I removed all SIP trunks from the default department and use it for all users that only need to use 3CX internally. That has the nice effect of everyone having at least base functionality if someone from the helpdesk forgets to set the correct department.

Thanks for that. every bit helps.
So none of the Outbound rules appear to be dedicated to any department - all have blank entries for that:

I cant see or know of anywhere the SIP would be specifically assigned to a particular dept.
