I just finish installing the latest version of 3CX.. I started to read thru the documentation but was hoping to do small tests as I progress thru the software..

I worked thru the issues that was provided by the firewall checker....

I created a few users and installed the 3CX VoIP apps on two iPhone. They show as Green, and I am able to send texts, but not make calls.

I saw some post where you need to get SIP truck setup.. I was able to successfully setup on with SIP.US...


My simple question is, should I be able to make internal calls between two extension without any SIP trunk interaction..

Yes, internal calls should work even without any SIP trunks or gateways configured.

What's your setup? Like the location of the PBX and what type of FQDN are you using?

I am running 3CX on a ESXi Host Windows 2019.


I have NAT between 3CX Server and the internet


The FQDN that was given when I registered the license is resolvable via the internet.

Sorry for the long waited reply, I wanted to do some testing to make sure that internally calls are working..

I am able to make calls on my LAN and WLAN.

The 3CX server IP is 10.10.10.199.

Wired Clients = 10.10.10.0/24
Wireless Clients = 10.10.30.0/24

I have internal DNS, but I do not have have an A record for the server, so it FQDN resolves to the external IP.

I am using the same two iPhone to test that worked when connected to my internal WLAN.

when I check my router, I do not see any NAT translation coming from the phone.

The phone connection details have both Local PBX and External PBX, are they check in a round robin fashion when one does not response?

On the wireless network, you need to allow 3cx port 5090 (tcp /udp) and 3cx https port (443 or 5001) thru to your 3cx server 10.10.10.199

Yes, the application will check both local and external fqdn / IP address to get a connect to the server

You will not see any nat translation, as traffic is router via the firewall between the two networks based on ip address

The issues is when I am not on my network, I cannot make calls.. My expectation is that I should be able to sync up with he PBX over the external FQDN and make calls.

When you say not on my network, are you talking about the iPhones connected to mobile company data services ?

Have you configured the router / firewall to open the required ports https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/firewall-router-configuration/

What are the result of running the firewall test https://www.3cx.com/docs/troubleshooting-firewall-checker/

Yes, that is correct, when I am on my cellular connection. see my FW test below. had to remove some of the port testing for the reply to post.. but all the NATS are there.

Yes I can.. I confirmed I can get to the management console, and was able to login.

If by texts you're talking about 3CX chat then there's a good chance the issue has to do with what @Saqqara said:

You must make sure that you can reach the PBX on tcp port 5090 from that network. To determine if it is the specific network that's at fault I'd recommend simply testing the same iPhones on a different remote network either wifi or LTE. Do you still get the same results?
