Hi,

Just wondering how many of you are using the Raspberri Pi in a commercial environment with a cloud based 3CX installation (Azure or similar).

How is the reliability of the Raspberri Pi in this setup?

Its much better to use a decent MiniPC at $200, especially if its more then 10-20 users.

I agree with Nick, we are using the Raspberry Pi though for setups <10 users. No problems so far.

For more users we use a VM install based SBC or NUC. Always in a Linux setup.

Hi Hogan71088,

I use Raspberry Pi's with AWS in the cloud and do not experience any issues (although my end point and call traffic count is not that much on my personal deployment). Rest assured however I have plenty of customers using Raspi version SBC's in commercial environments - just make sure you stick to the guidelines 3CX have set.

The Raspberry Pi will support up to 20 extensions per device and 200 BLF's (requires Raspi 2 or 3) I would recommend you don't push the limit too much though.

As with the previous posts on this string I would agree - a MiniPC would be advisable + 20 extensions, but please note that the Mini PC variant would be the Windows or Linux SBC which has the capacity to take up to 50 extensions and 250 BLF keys.

Ensure (as with the Raspi) that the device complies to the hardware requirements set out by 3CX https://www.3cx.com/docs/recommended-hardware-specifications-for-3cx/ and the extension and BLF limit above.

It does beg the question however that if you would want to use this many extensions (unless of course the customer insists on a hosted solution) why not just deploy an on-premise 3CX solution instead of SBC.

FYI you can have multiple SBC's per site and distribute the phones amongst them, personally I would not do this but it is an option.

Thanks all for your replies, I always prefer to deploy an on-premise solution or run the SBC on an existing Windows server that's already on site. Food for thought.
