Hi,

I'm considering moving away from Twilio (which I really like) because it is not recommended for the Hosted by 3CX solution.

What would you recommend that offer similar features as Twilio (especially their dynamic SMS flow designer that allows to create message flows)

Thank you

Twilio is *still* recommended for hosted as far as I know.

The problem is that they are not registration based. I don't want to risk losing connection if the IP of my hosted 3CX changes.

I'd be more than happy to keep Twilio though, and would rather not change but i anyone has any experience with a hosted by 3CX solution and a SIP + SMS provider that is registration based, please let me know which one do you recommend.

Thank you for your time.

A valid concern, but that is unlikely to happen under normal circumstances. 3CX and DO aren't going around changing IP addresses for fun.

I'm sorry what is DO?

DO is Digital Ocean, the provider that 3CX typically uses for 3CX hosted.

So according to your experience it is safe to keep Twilio for a 3cx hosted instance?
Do you then use a second sip trunk that is Registration based in case Twilio fails?

No, it's not really a concern for us or users on 3CX hosting. We've had 3CX hosted instances pretty much since day 1 and the IP address hasn't changed. You would have to have a serious data center outage for them to think about changing the IP address so you are going to have downtime no matter what. If it's that big of a concern, then 3CX hosting is not for you. You want to setup something that supports HA which 3CX hosting does not.

Ok then I can safely keep using Twilio :)

Have you had good experience with Twilio as well, as far as reliable service and calling success?

As we are a 3CX certified SIP trunking provider ourselves we don't use Twilio, nor would I recommend it over us :)

That being said, the main drawbacks of Twilio is support. Most Twilio issues are caused by folks no reading the configuration guides 3CX provides, or not understanding/implementing them properly. You seem to have passed that hurdle. The second party is if there is truly an issue on the Twilio side their support times are measured in days and weeks typically. But from a network side of things they are pretty solid.

Oh I see.

The thing is that I need SMS capability with our DIDs, otherwise i wouldn't mind changing to another provider. And I like their Message Flow functionality as well.

Thank you so much for your explanations, really appreciated!

I would not really recommend Twilio because its IP based, not register based. So use another register based provider... CobaltIT, Voxtelesys, DIDlogic - there are a lot to choose from. In terms of SMS, we are working on a major improvement to make it much easier to support SMS for more providers.

I understand why OP asked the question at the first place. We get that little warning at the top when using Fixed IP on Hosted by 3CX:

My recommendation would be to wait to see the new SMS improvement that Nick mentioned. Maybe we will see new nice alternatives, compatible with Hosted by 3CX. But personally, I always have a second SIP Trunk provider (if not 3 or 4) in my outbound routes.

I only have experience with Twilio, and that's why I wanted to ask on the Forum for any users experience with other register base SIP trunk that also are SMS providers (in 3CX), like Flowroute.

Stay with Twilio a while longer, we will have some more interesting options coming very soon. Then look at those :)

Quick question:

I'm still a noob BTW,

When you set additional failover SIP Trunks in case the first route fails, is the original DID displayed to the end user, even though let's say, the outbound call was used using the Twilio SIP trunk, but failed and then the 2nd SIP trunk is used, but obviously the DID for that one will be different right?

Basically, my question is, how do you keep the same DID displayed through different SIP trunk routes so it looks like you are calling from that same DID to the end users?

Is that even possible?

I suggest you start a new thread and give more explanation about your question. There are so many variables that could affect this depending on the trunk providers you use. It keeps the forum clean by avoiding "messy" and "all over the place" forum threads.
