Request for Upgrade and Extension Format Change

I am currently using 3CX version 18 and am looking to upgrade to version 20. In addition to this upgrade, I would like to change the extension numbering format from 3 digits to either 4 or 5 digits.

Could you please confirm if the following is possible and provide guidance on how to proceed:

1. Upgrade from 3CX v18 to v20.
2. Change the extension format from 3 digits to 4 or 5 digits during or after the upgrade.

If there are specific steps or considerations for performing this upgrade and extension change, please let me know. Additionally, if there are any prerequisites or potential issues I should be aware of, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's not possible to change the extension format after setup. You need to reinstall the PBX.

If you restore a backup, it restores the original extension format. You will need to setup from scratch.

1. Yes it will restore all those settings
2. If you want to change the extension format, you can't restore the backup. You will need to reconfigure the PBX from scratch.

"Next, you must choose the Extension Digit Length of the PBX.

This is a very important decision to make, as this is something that can never be changed unless you reinstall and configure the system from scratch.

A backup and restore, will restore the previous extension digit length. Always factor in future growth when selecting the extension digit length."

What you can do to save you some of the hassle is to export your users into a CSV file, and change the extension number. Then import your users. This will at least save you a little bit of effort during the setup of the new system.

Any other settings like queues, ring groups will need to be setup again.

Is this due to exhausting the extension numbers, or just a personal preference?

Users can set up their own mobile app by logging in to the web client and clicking the Apps button on the lower left.
