Hi!

I took a backup of a system and attempted to install it on a new install but it wouldnt let me as it was an update or so behind (nothing major).

is it possible to update 3CX PBX via SSH to get it to the latest version?

Yes i believe so.

I ran a backup and attempted to restore but it said it wasnt the latest version.

I must add - I installed 3CX from command and not the ISO.

That's strange, shouldn't be giving you a problem. I'd give it a bash using the ISO and see if the same issue occurs.

the problem is, all my instances are OVH so i cant use ISO.

is there no way to update via command?

The "supported" way is what @VasilisV_3CX said.

If you already have the new installation where you want to restore the backup onto ready, what you could try as a last resort is:
  1. Do a clean install using the license key the backup file has in it.
  2. Log into the Management Console and install all updates (I am suspecting the "commands" method of installing installed an older version....)
  3. Manually upload the backup file into the Backup folder.
  4. Try restoring the backup post-install through the Management Console

I ran into this today attempting to restore a backup onto a new iso based system.
I believe the 3CX iso and the windows install only have the latest release and not the hotfix release even if that is newer. I have seen this in the past as well.

Is there any way in the future to ensure that the iso and windows installers include the latest hotfix release so there isn’t any delay or work around to restore a pbx if latest version has a hotfix going forward?

The installers are the latest version if you install as per the manual.

In very rare cases, a hotfix is released without an installer but this is for cases like when we released the V16 U8A hotfix that just added +6 months of life to V16 installations.
The reason an installer wasn't released is because if you needed the installer to re-install, what you should do is upgrade to V18.

I was using v18 iso (latest) and it installed 18.0.3.450 not 18.0.3.461. Not sure why you say I need to upgrade to v18. The above fix works but the iso should install latest version including any hotfix.

I just downloaded the latest ISO from our website, put in a VM and installed it from scratch. This is what I get:

Could it be that you have using and older ISO that you have pre-installed and are just deploying new VMs from a template that was based on an old ISO?

Yes. Thanks for the info. Generally the iso will use the latest build. I will ensure to grab the latest version just to be safe going forward.

Just to add that I installed a fresh 3CX and did a restore to get this working. Couldnt use the ISO due to limitations.
