Hi all

I would like some others to review this occurrence and confirm the expected behaviour.

Basic background is this company is in the middle of moving offices and currently only have one phone connected out of 6 for the ring group. Their network is currently running over a 4g mobile connection. PBX is cloud based.

Situation is an employee off site called in to the RG which has the one single phone registered. This call presented no audio and after some seconds the employee hung up and called back and got through. The time waited should have been long enough to transfer the call to the destination no answer which in this case is a voice mail box. My thought is the internet was flaky at that time so the phone missed the invite from the PBX, hence the PBX was never told a phone was ringing and the PBX sat there waiting for a response that would never arrive.

My question is would that prevent the PBX from processing through the time limit before transferring the call? Does a phone actually need to ring before the timer begins to count down?

Thanks all

As for our round robin, it's set to 5 second ring and then search for the next available.
Some phones sometimes run through the backup connection which is slower and I notice only rings a couple of times before it finishes. Based on this, I'd say timer starts before ring. Not sure if anything else happens before that, but I'd imagine some sort of hand shake?

Is your ring group on hunt or ringall?

Well that depends. Lets assume that the call reached the PBX and the PBX sent the Invite to the phone. The PBX expects a 100 Trying or an 180 Ringing response to consider that the phone is reachable. If it does not receive a response it will drop the call.

Great, thanks Yannis.

That confirmed my thinking that if the PBX regards the phone as online and reachable but doesn't get a response from the phone it drops the call.
