Hello all,

I have just setup a new hosted customer. 2 x Yealink T53W Router phones with 4 normal phones behind each. Working seamless so far.

If one of my router phones goes offline and assuming I cannot recover it quickly. What is the recommended course of action to get the disconnected 4 phones back online? I persume that I cannot change the SBC once a phone is not registered.
My thoughts are delete phone in console, resetup connected to working router phone and factory reset phone. If there is a better route I would appriciate feedback.

Thanks.

Tested the scenario where one SBC goes offline.

Temp fix - switch to STUN
1. In 3CX console I changed the provisioning method from SBC to STUN
2. Logged into each phone and removed the proxy address.
3. Rebooted phone and sucessfully registered with STUN

Proper Solution
1. In 3CX console I switched the phones to the working SBC router phone
2. Logged into each phone and changed the proxy IP address.
3. Rebooted phone and sucessfully registered with working SBC.

Hope this helps anyone with this scenario and if there is an offical routing I would appriciate feedback.
Thanks

STUN seems like the hard way, with DHCP reservations and port forwarding.

I recently reset a phone and set it up as a router phone to replace a flaky Pi and all I had to do on the others was change the SBC choice in the 3CX management console. (Edit: I probably had to reprovision the other phones after, don’t recall specificall)

Each phone can also be its own SBC.

Did the Router Phone have the same IP address as the Replaced Pi?

No it was different. Just changed to the new one on each phone in the 3CX GUI.

1. Firstly ensure that none of the phones are on WiFi - we do not test or support WiFi, we recommend using wired LAN only.

2. If your router phone goes down often, you need to look into why this happens rather than try to move the phones elsewhere. In a pinch you can use the 3CX desktop / mobile / web apps to work until the phones are sorted out.

3. If the normal phones are also T53, then you can set each one to act as its own SBC. This way nobody is relying on anybody else to act as their SBC and if one phone goes down the rest are not affected.

4. You can change the SBC on normal phones if needed, so in case you want to to what you said originally, just edit the normal phones and assign a different SBC to them from the drop down menu. Then simply rebooting the phones will cause them to reprovision and connect via the new SBC. You should test this before you rely on it as a backup solution.

Note: DO NOT SWITCH THEM TO STUN - they will need to be factory reset to remove the wrong settings.

Hi John,
Thank you for taking the time to reply.

1. Phones are Wifi capable but we make a point to use wired only.
2. Good point, this is a hypothetical situation and I am just trying to plan for the inevitable time in the future that one of the router phones is taken offline or fails.
3. Normal phones are T31's so not SBC capable. Maybe I should standardise router phones only in future but at present the range is limited.
4. Ok, I obvoiusly over complicated the resolution by manually changing the proxy on each phone.
