SBC Always UP?

Hello everyone I setup some Yealink devices at our office and everything was fine yesterday. This am we came in an non of phones were working until we powered up the desktop hosting the SBC. Is the SBC required for continual communication or provisioning? Or was this just one of those freak times in which this shouldn't happen. Our switch (POE) didn't lose power so this is why I pose this question.

The SBC needs to be on for the phones to connect through the SBC to the 3CX server.

If they turn off the PC then a Raspberry Pi can be used, or if they have phones that can be a "router phone" (basically, an SBC) one phone can handle itself and 9 other phones.

No way to setup without SBC? I understand security I have some Sangoma phones I setup manually and moved to 3CX just making sure I understand. Because worst thing that could happen is a customer phone not work. We are using Yealink T48G for learning/training btw. And thanks for the reply!

If the 3CX server is "in the cloud"/outside the network then an SBC is by far the preferred way to go. STUN is manual, error prone, needs ports forwarded, and I believe unsupported.

Yealink T5 series phones can be router phones, they just need one T5 per 10 phones.

Another option is to run an SBC in a small VM or small PC somewhere on the network.

I agree I have RPi everywhere they were hard to get. I think the Router phone is the better solution. Thanks so much!!

As mentioned by @SteveITS, SBC is the preferred provisioning method.
A router phone is the best solution in case you have up to 10 IP phones in the remote location.
