SBC - drop-outs

Hey, just wondering what experience others have with the SBC running on a pi or the call4tel appliance? We have several clients using a mix of both and we experience SBC drops randomly. Sometimes they are up for 7 hours, others for 14 days and then suddenly reboot.

All 3CX PBX's are running v18.0.9 (Build 20) on AWS Lightsail (Debian) or EC2 instances. SBC's are running latest version 18.1.36

Do others have similar issues? Is that normal that the SBC reboots at certain intervals - like all memory/buffer used and the device decides to reboot to freshen up!

Any input or advise would be appreciated

Does the appliance meet the hardware specifications?
However this has to be checked from the supplier.

Thanks, the call4tel is an approved/certified 3CX device and the Pi's we use are Pi 4's according to the specs from 3CX (CPU/Memory a.s.o)

For appliance failure you need to contact the vendor.

I'm not sure if that is an appliance failure. I also factory reset it and install a newer firmware version onto it.
Generally speaking, do SBC's reboot by themselves sometimes? (except internet/power outages)

No, reboot is not pushed from the PBX.
As long as there is normal connectivity the connection is there all the time.
Of course if there is an outage, there is nothing we can do.

Analyze the event logs on the SBC for any errors or warnings that may indicate the cause of the reboots. Make sure you have the latest software installed on both your 3CX and SBC. Sometimes updates may fix known stability issues.

If you're in spec and having random reboot problems on lots of Pi SBCs it sounds like either PSU insufficiency, heat dissipation problems or an over-eager / loose canon admin.

My org has 100 or so Pi 3 & 4s. In general they work very reliably. Some of ours are PoE. Once ran into a problem using a PoE to USB-C Adapter, where it was a bit underpowered and led to drops etc, but using the official Pi3 & 4 PoE Hats and the official PSUs, things have always been reliable. Some have separate PSUs. One comment I would make is to not try to connect too many handsets to a single Pi, though this is more of a problem with the Pi3's which I think support upto approx 20 handsets, though the number of BLFs also comes into the equation. In short stick with 3CX's recommendations on handset and BLF numbers and they should be fairly reliable.

Specifications and limitations are also listed here. You always need to check this before you proceed but the power outage is not something that we can guarantee.
