Are the subnets networks vlan from the main network. ?

Are the networks at a different location to the 3cx server , do you have site to site vpn

Good questions, does it matter if they're on different Vlan's. I thought they idea was to be able to access the FQDN of the server.

The subnet within the local office are different Vlans.

For the branch office I suggest using SBC because of the way it handles local traffic.

I guess I'm more interested in local network

as the vlans are in the same building, make sure the vlans can access the 3cx server network,

As PnP does not transmit across vlans, you will have to use DHCP option 66.

Another option create a vlan just for the 3cx network, and have the other vlan access it if you are using 3cx apps, etc. Depending on the switches you may be able to setup the switch to device voice devices and put them into the correct vlan. As the phones and 3cx server will be on the same vlan, PnP will work

How well does firmware updates work if using DHCP 66 to get server details. I thought SBC was better at this.

Using DHCP 66 is just away of getting the provisioning url added to the phone, when pnp does not work (phones automatically appear in the 3cx management console). As long as you allow traffic between the handsets and 3cx server , updates / firmware will work.

I find the DHCP configuration instructions a bit difficult to understand. Hence my use of SBC in multi-subnet networks


I don't have any of those phones listed and I have more than one type of phone.

What phones do you have ?

It does not matter if you have more than one type of phone, as the provisioning url will be same
