Hello everyone,

I am attempting to run 3CX with no additional hardware except a fax ATA, cannot get my dial by name directory working without recording self-identification messages. Will I need to ftp these to my PBX to get them running (Google Compute VM)? I tried using the 999 option from the manual on the Windows client but it just errors.

Thanks in advance.

So you are trying to direct incoming Fax calls through an IVR using dial-by-name?

I tried using the 999 option from the manual on the Windows client but it just errors.

This would be an unrelated issue. What does the 3CX Activity Log show (errors?) , when dialling 999?

From 3CX Manual: https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/ivr-digital-receptionist/#h.lrxbnjwqwgwb

Self-identification message
To record your self-identification message through your IP Phone:

  1. Go to your voicemail menu (Default 999).
  2. Enter your voicemail PIN number.
  3. Go to the options menu (‘9’ key).
  4. Press ‘5’ key to record the self ID message.
  5. Record your name only, i.e. “Sarah Jones.”

I haven't changed any defaults, but found in the Voicemail settings on my appliance that I am using 99, which doesn't match the doc. Has anyone else noticed theirs set as 99 for a fresh install?

It all depends on how many digits long you selected extension numbers to be. If it was 2, then voicemail = 99, 3 = 999, 4 = 9999, etc.

You will find the voicemail extension but going into the Management console - Settings -> Voicemail , you find 'Voicemail Menu Extension Number'

Of course you need to enable voicemail for each extension

As mentioned above the voicemail extension depends on the length of your extensions. It also depends on your country. In the UK for example 999 is the emergency number so the voicemail number is 666.
Also for call by name to work each user needs to record a self-identification message
