I have a system using Cox as the SIP provider. They do not support T.38. I want to add a TRUNK like SIPTRUNK.com that does support T.38 and route all faxes through it. I have not been able to figure out how to get the fax server to use a different TRUNK. Does anyone know how to do this? Or am I going to have to switch my fax numbers over to extensions?

outbound rules, rule name, Fax SIPTRUNK.com

Calls to Numbers with a length of 12
Route SIPTRUNK.com Strip Digits 2
Route Block Calls

Tell people that if they want to send a fax to number 555-555-1212 they need to dial 99-555-555-1212

that is how I do it anyway.

Or you can create an outbound rule with "Calls to numbers starting with prefix " 99 and strip the 2 digits.
Either method will work and "99" is an example. You can use any prefix you want.

For Outbound FAX'ing with a FAX machine and 3CX you require an FXS supported gateway:
https://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/

3CX on its own with a SIP trunk will only do inbound FAX to email.

Thanks for the replies. I will try the prefix. Also, I do have an FXS supported gateway.

If you create an outbound rule, only applicable to the fax extension, and place it above the same rule all others use, then you would not require the prefix.

What model and brand of gateway are you using?

The prefix works great. Thanks!
