I just got this email, Let's just say I'm a tad pissed.

"You recently requested a free trial of 3CX, welcome onboard!

Getting your head around a new PBX can be tricky alongside the day job. That’s why we’ve arranged for the 3CX partners listed below to contact you over the next few days to answer any questions you may have about the phone system, provide support, and discuss your licensing options.

Business redacted - Location redacted, Contact

Business redacted - Location redacted, Contact

Business redacted. - Location redacted, Contact

If you’d prefer, you can search for other 3CX Partners in your area here or contact us and we will help you find the perfect partner match."

This kind of behavior is 100% unacceptable.

Giving me links to partners is one thing. Sending them my contact info without me opting in or requesting assistance is way out of line.

Hi Nestar,
What's the real problem? If you don't want any change for your free license or don't need a partner , no one force you to have one.
As you certainly know 3CX is not a totally free product, so it seems normal to me they try to convert some of the free licenses to commercial.

You filled out the form on the "Try" page. Right under the "submit and download" button, it says "By clicking 'Submit & Download' I consent to 3CX or one of its partners to contact me regarding its product." It's pretty plainly posted. I also would prefer an opt out up front, but it's up to 3CX to decide how to offer their software.

My main issue being that I don't want to be contacted by 3rd party IT support companies.
Now I'll preface this by saying I haven't been contacted yet, but the wording on the email would seem to indicate that I should expect this, (also no indication of whether that will by by phone or by email).

As far as the "agreeing to be contacted when I signed up", I certainly wouldn't have done so had I seen that (I signed up somewhere around a year ago and just finally got around to actually installing and activating, which now triggered this). Was this actually a thing back then.

Also, does 3CX not do business with clients in the EU? This kind of thing is specifically outlawed by GDPR. All 3rd party info sharing needs to be manual Opt-In. (Opt-Out and no option are both illegal under GDPR). Do you have separate policies for this depending on the users location?

Really Nestar, sorry to say that , but what a mess for a hypothetical partner contact, don't you have nothing else more important to do on Sunday?
Are you afraid of having to pay for a license or something else ?

I'm more than capable of choosing and purchasing a license on my own. As would anyone else who managed to install and setup the system on their own.

And if I really do need help choosing that, (or finding a partner to manage it for me). A link to the nearby business' who specialize in it would have sufficed. As mentioned above, my entire issue was with the divulging of my contact into, There's 0 reason for it here.

What does the day of the week have to do with anything? People work on a variety of days. Just happened to be when I had a chance to post/respond to this.
