Hello,

I'm working on converting over our old analog PBX to VOIP with 3CX. We operate as two separate companies, and I'd like the employees to be able to choose which company they are "calling as" when placing an outgoing call so the correct Caller ID is shown. Ideally I could set one of the Line Keys as Company 1 and one as Company 2, and they could just select the line they are calling out as, which is how it works in our current PBX. How can I do this in 3CX? Thanks.

Custom Template

You register 2 extensions per phone, these extensions outbound either via diff trunks that have diff numbers or same trunk and different outbound ID. You add second account to phone, bind that line key to that account.

That is the hard way but directly what you asked. The 3CX way would be to use a different dialing prefix (9 to go out as one CID and 8 as the other).

You'd need 2 trunks and CID set on the trunk level, correct? Or the ability to register the same trunk 2x (IP based, etc).

I was unsure his service - so provided a method that should work regardless.

Yep. No your method is definitely the one most customer friendly as far as matching his exact request to the current system, but requires some custom template action as 3CX doesn't allow provisioning multiple extensions to the same phone. I'm just trying to keep the op in a 3CX supported scenario, but they requires some backend pieces as you mentioned.

Thanks. I ended up doing it (for now) by creating the second trunk with a different CID. Unfortunately my provider (Flowroute) only provides one auth key so I needed to use IP auth for the second trunk. And for now I just have an outgoing prefix set to call via the second trunk. It would be nice to use the Line Keys to do this as we have now but I'd really like to avoid getting into custom templates just to do that as it seems like there are downsides to that, if we can avoid it, so I'll see if the staff can get by using the prefix. I see there is a popular feature request which 3CX has been working on for a few years which should be able to accomplish this in a less klunky way -- hopefully they get it done soon.
