Hi. We have multiple inbound numbers (for separate companies) and are using the Windows softphone client. I need to be able to signal the user when they get a call so they know which inbound number was dialed. Is it possible to do this via a different ring tone or, even better, an image on the screen when the call pops up?

Cool. I see this now. Thanks! Does anyone know if there's any way to trigger a different ring tone or other bigger visual/audio cue, given that the information is available to the client?

The way we have done this in the past, is to add separate SIP Extensions (SIP accounts), Then you can set a different ring tone for each SIP account. We did it as a bit of a joke and played a nice Ring Tone we recorded and uploaded to the phone, then when we called, we could play the ring tone :-). I guess it's the reason why phones like Yealink T42s have about 10 accounts.

In another site we have changed the ring tone for internal calls, because you filter on the called ID length. i.e. if it's = 3 digits then play internal caller Ringtone. If I was looking at this, I'd be looking to see if you could filter on Prefix in the CallerID/Display name, because having added the Prefix from the Ring Group, that would identify it. There is some mapping you can do with inbound rules. Trouble is that if you end up changing the actual caller ID number field and add the prefix, you then find you can't easily return a call from the call history.

You/d need phones with that functionality. For what we have described above it was with Yealink T27P or T42S or above. I know it wasn't even possible to do the internal ring tones with more basic phones.

I'm wondering if there is any mileage in looking ta the 3CX Phone software (windows). You can run commands, so if that exposes the Prefix, then you might play an audio file (something like a midi file that would play quickly. You'd have to see if the Display name field is available as a parameter. We have written an handy application for a Yacht Marina that launches an HTML popup page, which looks up a Callers ID from their Marina Management system. This then displays all the appropriate details - Yacht Name, Berth, Name of account etc. We called it WEBIT (What 'ere boat is this! - we live in Devon :-)

Oh, that does sound like it might be a profitable angle to explore. We do use the 3CX phone software on Windows. Do you know where I might find documentation on how to run commands triggered by incoming calls?

I've been doing some more reading and research on this. I've seen some threads about having different ring tones for different call queues and how to implement that with desktop phones. Is there any way to implement different ring tones for call queues with the 3CX Windows client?
