Solved Sip Trunk to Metaswitch

Greetings everyone,

Has anyone had a success hooking sip trunks to a metaswitch using 3cx?
I'm trying to setup to a new small CLEC and I'm having some issues. Just wonder if anyone has done this before.

I'm sure folks have, but didn't know it was Metaswitch on the backend. The easy way would to IP authenticate if they allow it. Otherwise it's just a matter of getting on of their techs on the phone and asking what do I need to change. Btw you haven't mentioned what 'issues' means. Registration? Inbound calling? Outbound calling? Caller-id? One-way audio?

A good first step is making sure the firewall checker passes and getting familiar with wireshark.

We are doing IP based registration. They have a fiber feeding in with a either port giving me a 10.x.x.x private address. I am registered, and can make and receive calls, my problem is one way audio. My audio is going out but I'm not receiving audio. I do have a router between us and I just opened it up so no ports are blocking. I did a capture from the 3cx and I'm not getting any rtp ports in, I only see outbound rtp. My capture indicates they are using a different media server for rtp then the sip server. I don't know at this point if it's a routing issue on there end or if I need some different message header so it knows where to respond.

Is the port for SIP traffic different than the port for internet? If so they should have given you a guide or instructions with how to plug in, and you shouldn't be using a router between that and the PBX.

I had to use a router, it's the same thing as a wan to lan setup, the address they gave me for a gateway is a 255.255.255.252 subnet. The 5060 sip is fine, it's when it hands off to there media server is where it gets lost in translation so to speak. I'm going to put in a smart switch and port mirror the wan and do a capture there to see what is missing. It's a small Clec, and I'm playing the guessing game as they are not giving any info that is helpful. Lol, they sent me a wire capture to look at to determine rtp ports and the only ports on the capture was 5060.
To make things worse, that 10. address they gave me has no internet on it, so if I tried to eliminate router I couldn't have remote or cell apps and the 3cx couldn't have updates or anything.

Are they giving you both internet and voice, or is this voice only and you are getting your internet from another provider or the same provider but a different device or port? It sounds like they might be providing a private route for SIP in which case you wouldn't have internet on it. For that setup you would need two network interfaces in 3CX. They brought internet in on one port and voice on another. I'll will check that article out. Thanks a million!

Ahh yes, then you don't want a router between the SIP port and 3CX.
