Hello,

I am atttempting to configure skype to work with 3cx. I have followed the guide on the forum: http://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/skype.html
Which is really helpful and all appears to be working until a call comes in.

1. The problem is.

Each time a call comes in via the Skype Gateway it rings and displays the Skype username but disconnects as soon as the phone is answered

2. List of what SIP phones and VOIP provider or VOIP Gateway I am using

I am using Cisco 509g's with 3cx Management Console version: 10.0.22686.2297 SP.5, Skype Gateway Version: 2.0.9919.0 and Skype version: 4.1.0.179

3. SERVER STATUS LOG of when the action that causes a problem.

Be sure that whatever PC/server, that you are running 3CX and the Skype gateway on, is "audio capable". Because 3CX makes use of the audio component in your system, for Skype, your system has to be able to work with Skype as if you had installed it alone (no 3CX or Gateway).

It almost appears that it has no way of getting the audio cut through and drops the call, that's just a guess, at this point.

Thanks Leejor,

I will check that. I think the problem might be to do with the fact that I am running 3cx on a VMware machine, which obviously doesn't connect to the the physical cards, ports etc in the server (Poweredge 1750 by the way). So to combat that I have installed skype and the skype gateway onto a dedicated PC which then points to the 3cx server. I will check that skye is fully working onthe PC, but do you think it might be because of the forwarding to the server?

Thanks again

Simon

If I understand you right....
You need to install Skype and the Skype Gateway on the same dedicated computer as you installed the 3CX Phone System.
http://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/skype.html
See Pre-requisites, point 2 and 3.

Well I just had it working for a moment. When somebody called in from skype the phone rang and it all worked perfectly. Then for some unknown reason it has stopped working again.

THe server log is attached:

Any thoughts

Hi Simon,

As far as I can see there are two calls at the same time, call (74) and call (75) and a separated call (76).

The first call (74) come from Line 10001 “Skype Gateway 02” and goes to ext 9006.
This extension is not registered so the call is forwarding to ext 1234 and then goes to the voice mail.

The second call (75) come from Line 10000 “Skype Gateway” and goes to ext 1303.
This extension is registered by a SPA509G-7.4.9c. The two devices are joined together and the call is accepted.

The third call (76) is identical on call (75) so it should work properly.

My question now is: how many Skype Gateways are you using?
Can you disable Line 10001 “Skype Gateway 2” and test your Skype connection -via Line 10000- again?

Hi Frank,

I have setup 2 Skype gateways because as I understood it the first gateway was the mater and could only accept incoming calls, so the second one is suppossed to be for both incoming and outgoing.

I will disable the second gateway (10001) and see what happens. If this is what is causing the problems how should I configure it inorder to allow incoming and outgoing calls through skype?

Also is it possible to register two(2) ext numbers to a singal cisco 509g? i.e. ext 1303 and ext 9006 so that I can monitor both lines? I.e. one for normal calls and another for skype calls with the SP+BF+CP settings?

Thanks for all of your help

Simon

Hi Frank,

I have just deleted the second skype gateway form 3cx and from the 3cx gateway for skype.
When a call came in it rang but disconnected as soon as it was answered.

The server log was:

hi Simon,

I have setup 2 Skype gateways because as I understood it the first gateway was the mater and could only accept incoming calls, so the second one is suppossed to be for both incoming and outgoing.
One gateway is enough. I am able to make and receive Skype calls using only one gateway.

Q: are you running Skype and the Skype Gateway on a different machine or on the same machine as where 3CX in installed?
I see, when the call comes in, the system is using 3 different IP addresses which are
192.168.1.12 - 3CX Phone System?
192.168.1.98 - SPA509g?
192.168.1.109 - where the Skype Gateway is running on?
Correct?

If I am correct, then you need to reinstall Skype and the Skype Gateway to the same machine as where 3CX Phone System is running.

Also is it possible to register two(2) ext numbers to a singal cisco 509g? i.e. ext 1303 and ext 9006 so that I can monitor both lines? I.e. one for normal calls and another for skype calls with the SP+BF+CP settings?
As far as I know is this, without any problem, possible.

Hi Frank,

Thanks for getting back to me..
To clarify

192.168.1.12 - is a server dedicated to running the 3CX Phone System?
192.168.1.98 - is a Cisco SPA509g phone?
192.168.1.109 - is a stand alone desktop pc dedicated to running Skype and the Skype Gateway?

The rationale for this is that I use VMware with windows server 2003 so there is always problems with the whole virtual machine setup. So to avoid that I have setup a dedicated PC to run skype and the gateway. The other reason is all of the horror stories of Skype and the extras manager sucking the resources of the computer and installing applications randomly on your system, something which I cannot allow on a server

The frustrating thing was that it has worked with this configuration. I was able to receive Skype calls perfectly for a day. However I was not able to make skyp calls and as the 3cx guide and various foorum posts said that the master skype channel can only allow incoming calls I configured a second channel for incoming and outgoing calls. And since then it has stopped working. I have now removed the second channel and still have no luck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point.

Thanks again
Simon

Hi Simon,

The frustrating thing was that it has worked with this configuration. I was able to receive Skype calls perfectly for a day.
Sorry, I can’t give you any answer on that.

If you like it or not, Skype will only work if it is installed on the same machine as 3CX is installed.
As mentioned before; 3CX and Skype works only if all the software is installed on one dedicated machine. Not two, one.

I have running 3CX, Skype Gateway and Skype on one Windows XP machine, without any problem.
Also I have setup only one (master) channel in the Skype Gateway and I am able to make and receive calls.

Hi Frank,

Thanks for confirming that... I will reconfigure it to all run on the server and let you know how I get on...

Just out of interest have you had any problems with you computer slowing down for unknown reasons or any of the other issues related to running older versions of skype?

Thanks again for all of your help

Simon

Hi Simon,

No, I do not have any slowing down issues.
Here are some hardware specs: Win XP SP3, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850e, A6MVX mobo, 2 gig mem, 2x 1TB HDD RAID1.
I use it as: 3CX server 8SC, web-server, ftp-server, video security, usenet, 24/7 operational.
Skype version 5.1.0.112 is installed.

Hi Frank,

I now have skype working completely with 3cx and on the seperate dedicated PC. That way if there is any problems with skype it will only affect the PC and not touch either 3cx or the server it is running on.

It seems all i needed to do was unmute the sound permenately on the PC! Skype is supposed to unmute when a call comes through but for some reason it tripped out the system. By setting the sound to unmute and turning the volume down to 0 everything works perfectly.

Out of interest is there an easy way to configure multiple skype accounts to run at the same time through the skype gateway?

Thanks again for all of your help

Simon
