Hi all, we are setting up the new 3cx phone system. The setup went well but we are having issue with PUSH notifications to 3CX soft client (IOS & Android), as the notification appears very slowly compared to the 3CX application on Windows laptop which receives notifications instantly.

In summary:
  • 20 secs delay for calls/notifications to 3cx app on Apple & Android devices regardless on wifi or cellular network
  • no delay for calls/notifications to 3cx application on Windows laptop
May I check what went wrong?

  1. In Settings -> Phone/App, are you using your own Firebase account or the 3CX one? They have a throttle on that account for obvious reason. This only affects Android.
  2. Is your iOS Push certificate up-to-date? Check under Settings -> Updates if you see something new.
  3. How is the PBX setup? Cloud or Local?
  4. Are there any deskphones?

Hi Frederick

Thanks for your reply.

  1. I am using 2 user's 3CX normal account and encounter this problem.
  2. It's the latest version but does it affect Android too?
  3. Local setup on Linux
  4. No deskphones

1. How many users doesn't relate to that. It's the API used to send push notifications. The 3CX account (empty fields) is throttled to prevent abuse.

2. No it doesn't affect Android. See #1.

3. Do you have your port forwarding done correctly on your router/firewall? As well as disabled SIP ALG?

4. Do you have one laying around that you can test? Maybe the call is simply getting into the PBX slower, so the apps might not be in cause.

Hi Frederick

May I check for no 1 to 4, if the push notifications appears on windows 3cx application instantly. Can I double check if I still need to check these settings?

Any idea if these settings will differ for push notifications to 3cx Android and 3cx ios apps?

The desktop softphone on Windows/Mac doesn't use "Push" notifications. It's a different protocol.

What settings? Firebase API in Phone/App settings is only for Android. iOS uses the Push certificate.

Hi Frederick

I have checked that we are using the latest iOS Push certificate. We are not using the SIP ALG. However, still unable to resolve the push notifications on the phone app. We are only able to receive notifications immediately if the app is open on the screen. Otherwise, it will take more than 30 secs for android and ios phones not ringing.

May I check if our firewall config is correct, is it something here we did wrongly which caused the push notification issues?

From internet to 3cx server
- TCP/5060, TCP/5090, UDP/5060, UDP/5090, SSL/443

From internal to 3cx server
-TCP/22. TCP/5001, TCP/5060, TCP/5090, UDP/5060, UDP/5090, UDP/7000-8499, SSL/443

Hi, does it mean the extra ports we open caused the push notifications issue?

First, your RTP port range is bad.

Second, just verify that you opened outgoing ports specified in the docs. For ease of config and use, just open everything in outgoing direction.

We have kinda of resolved the push notifications issue after switching the internet line. Some how the particular router and internet line spent a long time to resolve dns which caused the notifications to be delayed.

Hi Alan,

Glad to hear it was resolved. You might also want to revise you firewall policy, take a look at the RTP port ranges here please https://www.3cx.com/docs/ports/
