If we would like to add SMS from Twilio but keep our voice trunks with our current carrier are we able to control the caller ID of the SMS DID so that when users text outbound it will be from a known DID of our company?

Yes, it is possible. Ask them for Hosted SMS services.

Would that mean the conversations would not be managed from the 3cx applications? I have the SMS working however it is with a DID that is not known or assigned to the end user customer and I am sure they will want something that is common to their company. But if on the outbound the SMS goes out as another carrier SIP DID wouldnt the reply not get routed properly?

You would port the SMS portion of the number to Twilio and then configure it on your PBX like you would any number in your Twilio account.

Don't get caught up in the detail of them advertising their own services.
