We have a customer who ported their number to Flowroute and setup SMS. They are able to send and receive long code texts but can't receive short code texts.

I was going to test sending a text from my system using Telnyx to see if I would get a response but 3CX only allows me to send if the number is in E.164 format.

Has anyone had issues with receiving short code messags?

After sending a SMS to the shortcode number, open the "3cxManagementConsole.log" file and search for something like this (I usually search for some words that I sent in the SMS from the sending side). You should find something like this:

Do you find something like this?

I can't send to short codes at all. It tells me the number has to be in e164 format.

I wasn't sure how or if the number can be put into e164 format.

In our original post you said:
...but can't receive short code texts

They way I understood this is that, someone external sends a message to a short code number you have from Flowroute, and that text never reaches 3CX. Did I understand this correctly?

Yes, for sending via an SMS provider from 3CX to an external number, the number format needs to be in e164 format. That is currently a requirement.

I am having issues sending and receiving. I mentioned sending as you replied stating after sending.

Do I need to look at the logs after one was sent to us?

Yes, best way is you from your own mobile send a test SMS to the number, wait 60 seconds, then check the log file I mentioned.

I will be glad to do that but I don't have issues receiving from 10 digit/e164 numbers.

We can't receive short codes. Customer has number on file with their bank and the bank sends texts using a 5 digit short code instead of an actual e164 number.

Ok, have misunderstood the issue, so you are having a problem when a Short Code number sends a message to your e164 SMS Number.

In that case, still yes, you'd have to check the log as a first step.

I don't see anything like that. Do I need to set it for verbose to see that?

That's right, you got the right section of the log, so best check with the customer if they are seeing something like this in their log.

Before doing so though, best confirm with Flowroute if indeed they don't support incoming messages from short code numbers.

Flowroute support states they don't support short code SMS.

Although I'm surprised to hear this, that would explain it.
