Hi Folks,

We've been testing out a bunch of different SNOM phones and they all get their themes reset every day. This is VERY annoying for some people. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Thanks!

Hi,

When you say the themes are reset, do you mean that the user manually changes the theme from the phone menus and then it goes back to the way the 3CX default provisioning provides?

If so then that is to be expected, since the phone reprovisions itself every day automatically.

Is there any way to stop it from changing that? It is just confusing to the users.

make the change in the template for the phone and not in the phone itself

If it's confusing for the users, it's because you didn't explain it to them.

'Hi Joe user. To ensure the system runs smoothly the PBX will provision the phone configuration daily which will reset any changes made locally. If there is something you would like to change on the phone please contact ..."

Your right. I should have said....sorry this isn't like your old Cisco system that lets you set basic functions on the phones and have them preserved. Thanks for the non-answer.

Hi @TheBellSystem

Just to clarify, the manufacturer has provided the firmware and templates automating this procedure and keeping a default theme applied during regular reprovisioning.

There is no supported way of preventing that. You will need to spend time creating your own template for this but we would not recommend it because you will then have to test and maintain your own templates, and the setup would become unsupported by 3CX.

An alternative would be to remove the provisioning link from your phones, but that will also have the caveat that you will not be able to easily reprovision them to update things like names, BLFs, passwords and other settings.

If you want to go ahead anyway, be aware of the above and choose wisely.

That's right, but I'm currently in trouble to understand parsing of config file based on phone model by 3CX system...

Snom Template File

In your case just find and delete Snom Settings providing themes feature.

That is what I suspected. The default theme it chooses is just so awful lol. I really don't want to get into templates as it becomes a nightmare to maintain and even harder to flip back to supported templates after the fact. I wish this was just a option you could select on the provisioning page. It's always the little things that drive people crazy and they don't care why they can't set their hot pink theme lol.

One possibly important detail regarding the default theme: it will not appear correctly if the phone firmware is not on the latest supported version. There was a change in the firmware and templates last year so they need to match each other. Just ensure they are up to date and if not, upgrade them. After the upgrade completes, hit reprovision one last time to ensure the theme values match with what the new firmware expects.

Thank you for the help, John. It is appreciated as always.
