Hi a year ago i was offered a upgrade from free to a Standard Perpetual key As far as i know it said the key will never expire. But now i get a email saying in 30 days it will and i will not be able to get maintenance and after 90 days i will not be able to use my custom mail server. ?????. I do not really care about the maintenance but do want to use my mail server. I run the system at my home with only 1 line im not a business or anything just like the system with is why i use the stranded ver i got given and told in email it will never expire. So am i going to lose smtp custom server setting??.

Please note that perpetual keys do not expire. Maintenance for these keys does expire though. When maintenance expires and is not renewed after 90 days of the expiration then you will not be able to renew it. If you are using a custom smtp server then that will still be available as long as you do not choose to use a 3CX smtp server at any point.

Ok cool so does that mean if some time down the track after the 90 days say i get an email giving me a new key for free for another ver at any point i will not be able to use that key on this install?. Would i have to reinstall the new ver with a new key and would i still be able to use a backup to restore settings i have now?

If you need to change your licence key down the road after the 90 grace period has expired you will need to perform a backup of the system without including licence and FQDN information un-install the current installation and re-install using the backup you created to restore.

I am in a similar situation as stewart. The part I didnt quite understand is

what happens with the FQDN *.3cx.us and the SSL cert auto renewal? will those stop working at the end of the maintenance period?

I have the standard perpetual licence with a v15.5.0 install and host it at google free tier using a custom firebase and custom email account.

All things that require maintenance to work will stop working once maintenance expires. That includes webmeeting, 3CX provided FQDNs, certification renewals and the 3CX SMTP server. Also you will no longer be able to update / upgrade your PBX.
