Solved STUN extensions on Yealink Cordless Phones & STUN extension limit

I am implementing a new 3CX system with STUN extensions. Most of which will be set up on Yealink cordless phones. A mix between Yealink W52P and W60B base stations.

I have x2 questions:

1. Just wondering how the SIP/RTP ports need to be opened for cordless setups. If I look at the configuration on 3CX I see that we only require x1 SIP port and one range of RTP ports per base stations, even though there might be x8 extensions linked to that base station. Is this correct?

2. Is there a limit to the amount of STUN extensions you can create?

3. Which ports are used for other communication and needs to be skipped when setting up each device? eg 5090 (i don't see any others except 5090)

Hi Carmen,

1. Our guides cover this, you need a minimum of 12 ports

2. There is no limit other than the total number of ports which should be more than enough unless you are planning to make thousands of simultaneous calls.

3. As per our guides, you only need to forward the SIP and RTP ports. But you should consider using an SBC instead, because in this case the whole discussion becomes unnecessary and you get additional benefits like encryption and reliability.

So am I right in saying that it really doesn't depend on each extension having their own unique SIP and RTP ports, but rather about the simultaneous calls going over unique SIP and RTP ports?


3. I have read up about the pro's and con's on using a lot of STUN extensions vs using a SBC, and I have done implementations using both. The reason we are not using a SBC is because the client is situated in an area where they constantly have power issues.

1. Yes that it correct, the base can handle 8 extensions and the range covers all of them per base station.

2. A better way to think of it is that each hardware device must have their own unique SIP/RTP range.

3. I understand, that can be a problem. May I suggest the following as a possible idea if you still want to use a SBC:

You can use a Raspberry Pi which is a low power device, and connect the modem+DECT+Pi on a UPS so that the customer can have phones even during the power outage. Those 3 devices should use relatively little power, so an entry level UPS can probably keep them alive for a few hours until the power returns. Hope this helps!

So just to confirm, there is no limit to the number of STUN extensions you can have on 3CX?
 
There are limits (for simultaneous calls, not for STUN extensions in total), but I don't think you will reach them.

Do you make over 300 calls simultaneously?
 
Most definitely not.
