Hi

Planning to use 3CX in a hotel environment and wanted to check what the suggested extensions be for things like reception, restaurant etc that will not interfere with the other internal numbers that 3CX needs to operate and also for all the internal numbers like wake up calls etc

Was planing to use 200-400 for the room extension numbers.

Best practice for room extensions is that first number of extension represent room floor, so maybe consider to go in that way, receptionist are in most cases have some nice number, easy for remember.

How many floors and rooms do you have in that hotel?

Hello @sac9829

System extensions like voicemail(999), Pin protect IVR(777), etc. can be found in Management Console >> Dashboard >> System Extensions. Other than those, you can select the numbering that you want.
I'd go with room number=extension number if possible, leaving reception and other hotel services out of that range.
Wake up call service is bound to any IVR so you can select any number for this as well.

Would be over 2 levels

So rooms would be 201, 202.... and 301, 302 etc

Was thinking say 0 for reception and 8 for the restaurant unless everyone has better suggestions.

It's really up to you, as system wise there is no difference. Just a note i would like to add here is that you are bound to the extension length that you have selected during installation. So actual extensions should be 000 and 800. If you want however to use these one digit numbers for ease of use, you'll need to set the SIP ID on those extensions in Extension's settings >> Options tab.

Ok thanks for confirming.

You're welcome, glad to help.

Keep things as simple, straight forward, and logical as possible. People don't thoroughly read instruction cards on the phones, especially if there is too much text.

Yes agree that is why wanted to keep it simple with just a single number to press instead of needing to remember multiple digits.

Also will create shortcut keys on the phone so they can just press the button without needing to dial the number.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind. You didn't mention if this will be using analog or SIP phones for the guest rooms. I have done both and I personally prefer analog. The reason being that they are plain and the guest won't really play with them like they do when they see a phone with more buttons or screens. If using analog:
1. Most hospitality phones come with a neon MWI and you need to either insure that the phones will support FSK MWI signalling or the analog gateways for the phones will support neon. These are two different signalling methods which are not compatible with one another. FSK is usually an extra expense option, but there may be makes and models that now include it as standard.
2. Some makes and models will have programmable buttons with icons - restaurant, housekeeping, front desk, voice mail, etc.. You may be able to have the manufacturer pre-program them for you which will save quite a bit of time. You can also design a faceplate with some.
