Hello,

We are looking for a solution how we can automatically transfer our Outlook contacts to the 3CX contacts without 3CX accessing the Exchange server.

Unfortunately we cannot use the contact synchronization for on-premise Exchange servers built into 3CX because the 3CX server would need impersonated Exchange access. That means general access to ALL Exchange data, including every mail and every calendar. In general, our information security officer does not allow such access from the 3CX (DMZ) to Exchange server (internal network).

Idea 1: Local script on the clients synchronizes the Outlook contacts daily into the personal 3CX address book

Idea 2: Script on the Exchange server reads the Outlook contacts and saves them in a CSV. This CSV is also transferred daily to the 3CX contacts via a script.

Has anyone already implemented something like this?
Or any other idea how to solve the problem?

Local script would be the way to go.

To automate this process further, you could use our 3CX Contacts Sync tool to automatically import/update/delete the CSV data into 3CX. Currently, this tool can query Google contacts to automate the entire synchronization process. We could extend our tool to also sync with Exchange...

Thanks for the tip. I looked at the documentation for the tool and it only seems to be able to import to the central phonebook. We want each user's own personal Exchange contacts to be synchronized into their own personal 3CX phonebook. Unfortunately, the tool does not seem to be able to do this.

Does 3CX have an API interface that can be used to maintain the personal phone books of users?

There's an endpoint to import and clear, yes. It's undocumented.

You may also want to take a look at 3CX Contacts Sync. Export your contacts to a CSV and easily import into the company contacts. It's a completely automated process for Google Contacts (no need to export) and we could do the same for Outlook.

I'm sorry for replying to this old thread.
But has anyone found a solution in the meantime for importing private Exchange contacts into the private 3CX phonebooks?

Our customer also has their 3CX in a DMZ and the Exchange server on-premises. A direct connection between the systems is not desired.

Our 3CX Contacts Sync can import any CSV.

But only into the 3cx company phone book, correct?

That is the current functionality, but we can always make enhancements.
