Troubles in dialing out on HT-488 FXO

I think the first problem is the PSTN forward to Voip on basic page, which in effect forwards any incoming PSTN calls back out on the PSTN line. This entry should be perhaps to an existing virtual extension such as an existing VOIP provider in your incoming lines or yes you could have it to one single extension number if you wish so that only that extension rings, but generaly its to a virtual extension so anyone in a ring group can receive the call.

Oddly enough the config suggestion on 3cx.com/voip-gateways/GrandStream-HandyTone488.html - this link is no longer available, visti here: https://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/ suggests using the PSTN virtual extension number, which seems very strange, it works surely its not the right way.

How do you select an outbound call to go via PSTN or are you only using PSTN for your calls?

I think it's simply a labeling or language problem. That entry on the basic settings page establishes the PSTN to VOIP link. I don't think that your statement regarding taking the PSTN call and pushing it back to the PSTN is an accurate characterization. It actually passes it over to the VOIP engine of 3CX. In any event, that's the only way it works. If you blank that entry, 3CX can no longer instruct HT488 to pick up the line.
With this setup, I only need a 3CX dial out rule to get out on HT488's FXO line. Typically I use the extension filter, that's why I cannot do what you suggested. All my numbers do not necessarily start with the same digit so that I can strip or append. I'm trying to avoid dialing a prefix.

Re the PSTN to VOIP entry, yes your right it does send it out over 3cx so putting in the FXO virtual extension works (I am not sure how that does maybe the server does routing as it sees its on he same address not sure) but I dont leave it blan I put in a virtual extension I already have for a VOIP account, so ian ncomng PSTN call, als that virtual extension and not the FXO. Either works, but at least I can understand how my method works.

Ok on the use of the extension filter, I understand now..
