two DIDs, two extensions... why doesn't it work?

I use callcentric as my SIP provider.
I have two DIDs. One local and one toll free. I want to receive phone calls from the local DID and toll free DID at two different extensions. My google voice number forwards to my local DID and rings at extension 1000. That works currently. I did that by creating an inbound route to steer the CID of my google voice number to that extension.

I want my toll free number (which I ported to my sip provider already) to ring to extension 1001.

What are the requirements to make this happen?

I have the trunk set up to callcentric, I can make calls outbound from both extensions as the local DID. I would absolutely love for an outbound call from x1001 to show the CID of the toll free number (am I explaining that right?). I've asked callcentric for some help in case their system does not allow this type of thing, but I have no update to my helpdesk ticket yet.

Thank you in advance for anyone that can point me in the right direction.

broadviewtech,

Does your sip provider pass DID number when it delivers a call? If so then routing your second trunk (toll free trunk) to X1001 is no problem. Just set up a inbound route, enter the DID number that sip provider passes, leave CID blank, fill in rest of info on page, and then at the bottom of that page select destination and then extension and then select the extension number. Place your mouse over any of the options will give you a descript of what each option is.

For outbound CID on your toll free trunk, set up a outbound route, select the CID for this trunk and enter any number you desire and then setup a dial pattern for this outbound route. Like dial 8 then the number and any call dialed with an 8 as the beginning number will use that trunk and, if your sip provider allows, then what ever number you have as the CID will pass on to the person you are calling.

I believe this is correct, you may want to look at Elastix Without Tears manual located under "Books/Manuals" on this forum and read up on it.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately my SIP provider's been getting DDoS'ed for the last few days. They're probably buried in QoS related tickets right now so they're taking a while to get back to me. lol. I asked the question in a ticket so hopefully I'll see an answer soon.

Thanks for your help thus far. :cheer:

I found some more info from the SIP provider, I'm hoping this will shed some light but it looks from a quick glance that it's all in the asterisk config files... I'm comfortable with editing those but I'm not sure Elastix likes that. lol. I guess I will have to try to correlate these text file settings to the proper places in the GUI admin page.

So from that article it would seem that the SIP provider DOES pass the DID for each call.
Now I just have to figure out what I have configured incorrectly. Ha ha.

I have on my incoming route page for the toll free number:

Code:
Desc: toll free
DID: 1888(my number)
Music On Hold: default
Privacy Manager: No
Source: Metrostat
Detect Faxes: No
Extensions: 1001

The only thing I can see that doesn't really seem to match up to the online article... is the DID supposed to be sip:1888(my number)@callcentric.com ?? Or something similar to that? Am I on to something here? Ha ha

I think I'm not getting any other DID sent to my elastix box except for my account number.
Callcentric gives you a 1-777-XXX-XXXX number for your main DID??
That is the login that I'm using for the register string in the trunk.
Do I need to set up another trunk using the toll free DID?
I came to the conclusion stated in the first sentence because if I remove that inbound route, and place a call to either local or toll free, I get a system message about the party being unavailable.

broadviewtech,

1: Did I understand that you are using two inbound trunks? Your post is confusing to me, could be I'm just brain dead.

Did you modify these files as they instructed on the link? Elastix/Asterisk rewrites certain files and will over write what you put in them. Look at the files you modified and see if at the top of that file it states "this file will be overwriten by Asterisk" or something like that. If you have modified the files try and go back and put them in original form (remove what you entered). Then just start with entering the trunk info in the gUI. I hope you made a back up of Elastix before you made any changes to any files?????

Unless there is an absolute reason for having to modyfy files I wouldn't do it unless you are well knowledgable of Asterisk/Elastix. You should be able to do all your trunks and inbound routes from the GUI.

After you did what the link advised, did you look at you log files and see if it was reporting error as to the inbound trunks & routes? You can see that under "reports" then select "Asterisk Logs". These logs will lots of times give you important info as to what is going on even if you enter the required info in the GUI.

Did you try to set your trunk up under the Voip Provider Tab? If it is not working there you may have to go to FreePBX to enter the trunk info. You said you have two trunks, is the other trunk working as required. If so, use that inbound route for checking the toll free trunk by just changing the description and DID number to the toll free trunk once you setup the toll free trunk. Then when you get the Toll free trunk setup then you can go and make a second inbound route for the original trunk. At least this way you know you have a working inbound route first. I think trying to set up both at the same time and your trying to do too much and you can't tell if it is a trunk issuee or extension issue. Save yourself some time and head farts.

I see you have your Callcentric number as X-XXX-XXX-XXXX, are you sure they send it that way with the dashes, most don't as far as I'm aware of.

Hopefully you made a back up first and you can just reload the backup without having to relaod the whole machine.

Hi Amphibian,
No I have only one trunk set up right now. That is the 777 DID, and it's used in the register string of the trunk. Should I have one trunk for each DID? As of right now it's "working" still, where I have one trunk set up with the main account 777 DID and all numbers ring to x1000. I have 3 incoming routes, each has the destination set to an extension. Each has a different DID in the DID Number field. I tried removing the 777 DID and then no incoming calls would reach the destination extension x1000. So I'm wondering if maybe I need more trunks? Do I need to set up a trunk for each separate DID?

After you did what the link advised, did you look at you log files and see if it was reporting error as to the inbound trunks & routes?
I did not modify the text files. I saw the warning in the beginning of the files many times when I've been "just looking" at other asterisk config files. Yes, I heeded the warning. Ha ha.

Did you try to set your trunk up under the Voip Provider Tab?
No, I've been setting everything up through the gui under "PBX" tab and the "trunks" section on the left. I haven't done more than look at the VoIP provider tab.

After you did what the link advised, did you look at you log files and see if it was reporting error as to the inbound trunks & routes?
I haven't been able to figure out how to correlate those settings shown in the example config files to the appropriate fields in the elastix gui. The logs have SO much info ... what am I looking for? Anything that says "error"? Or...?

you have your Callcentric number as X-XXX-XXX-XXXX, are you sure they send it that way with the dashes
Sorry, no I don't have it set up that way in the register string or any of the trunk settings or incoming route settings. I set all those up with the full 1XXXXXXXXXX DID number, no dashes no spaces, nothing.

So tech support at callcentric pointed me to this help page...
http://www.callcentric.com/support/device/did_trixbox

This still leaves me kinda confused because I don't know how to correlate the settings in the text files to fields in the elastix gui. lol. I ran a backup last night with everything working (as in all calls to the business numbers reach my x1000). I'm going to try to make sense of the instructions they give.

In your sip.conf, or sip_general_custom.conf, file please make sure that the following values are present.

context=incoming

This I interpret as a trunk setting, so I'm replacing the context=from-pstn to context=incoming

Next please find your current configured Callcentric trunk, either through the web interface command line or method of your choice. Then make sure that the following values are present in the PEER details:

context=incoming
So.. maybe the last part wasn't the right location but I have it changed in the peer details of my one and only callcentric trunk now.

Then in your register string please make sure that your 1777 number is NOT present at the end of the string, "/1777MYCCID". Your register string should be formatted in the following manner:

1777MYCCID:[email protected]
So I removed the /1777MYCCID from the register string of my trunk.
Saved trunk info and restarted the box. Now I get a "not in service" message. :-/

Peeked around a bit more in the config text files, found sip_general_custom.conf, edited context=from_pstn to context=incoming. Restarted the box. Still getting "currently unavailable" message at Callcentric.

Next instructions...
To create this context you can either use the command line, a text editor of your choice or the trixbox interface to edit the extensions_custom.conf file.

Enter the following context:
[incoming]
exten => s,1,Set(Var_FROM_DOMAIN=${CUT(CUT(SIP_HEADER(TO),@,2),>,1)})
exten => s,2,GotoIF($["${Var_FROM_DOMAIN}" = "callcentric.com"]?5:3)
exten => s,3,GotoIF($["${Var_FROM_DOMAIN}" = "ss.callcentric.com"]?5:4)
exten => s,4,GotoIF($["${Var_FROM_DOMAIN}" = "66.193.176.35"]?5:7)
exten => s,5,Set(Var_TO_DID=${CUT(CUT(SIP_HEADER(TO),@,1),:,2)})
exten => s,6,GotoIF($["${Var_TO_DID}" != ""]?ext-did,${Var_TO_DID},1:7)
; Users may edit the lines below to route incoming calls to other locations/contexts.
; If you don't know what this means then you should likely skip the lines below and
; allow the script to run unmodified
exten => s,7,GoTo(from-pstn,s,1)
exten => h,8,Playback(ss-noservice)
exten => h,9,Macro(hangupcall)
Reloaded asterisk and voila! Now I get the toll free number coming to x1001 and going to vm with no answer, and the local number rings to x1000 with no VM! Yay!

So on to outgoing calls now... since the local number is a forwarding number from Google to the local DID I have with callcentric, I am guessing I might not be able to use that forwarding number as the outbound CID.. but I'm going to ask. So the larger half of the battle is over.

B)

So it doesn't feel like the "right" way to do this with the PBX... but in my case I don't use the toll free number for outgoing calls much if at all. So I found a setting in the "settings" and "general" tab that let me decide what outgoing CID to use with my service.
I guess that solves my issue for now. It'd be even more desirable for me to have the outbound CIDs both in use so x1000 would use my GV number and x1001 would use my toll free number.

Either way I'm ecstatic to have the system working like I wanted for inbound calls! :-)

Thank you again Amphibian for your help!

Is your local number one trunk and the tool free another trunk? In other words is your toll free call forwarded to the local number? If so you need to see if you can get the toll free sent to you as a seperate trunk, not call forwarded to the local number. If you can then you can setup a outgoing dial pattern so that you can dial out on the toll free when needed. I select outgoing routes as everyone else does, by assigning 7=local, 8=tool free. The manual explains how to do that.

No, the local number I present on my cards, www, etc is a google voice number that forwards to the local DID I got from callcentric. I ported my toll free number from grasshopper to callcentric. So the toll free number I actually have rights or whatever to the DID. I'm unsure about porting out from GV to get more control. :-/
