Hi. I have a client in UAE that is using a 3CX and a patton gateway.
Their main branch is in UK, will the UK SIP server account work in UAE?
Sorry I think that's a stupid question. As the client is saying it will work it will work.

This needs to be clarified from your provider.

Hi Theodore, thanks for the reply. You mean to say clarify with service provider from the UK or in UAE?

The provider is based on UK?

The client requirements is to use their SIP trunk server which is based from UK and use it here in UAE

You need to contact your provider to clarify if this is possible, if they are based in UK then you need to contact them.

I was asked the same question by a senior VP. This was my response to him (anonymized, obviously):

The use of SIP trunks across international borders can be subject to a variety of laws and regulations, which can differ significantly between countries. Here are some key considerations:

  1. Telecommunications Regulations:
    • Many countries have strict regulations governing the use of telecommunications services, including Voice over IP (VoIP) and SIP trunks. These regulations often require that telecommunications traffic be routed through local providers to ensure regulatory compliance and to facilitate monitoring by local authorities.
  2. Licensing Requirements:
    • Some countries may require that companies providing VoIP services, including SIP trunking, obtain specific licenses. Using a foreign SIP provider without complying with local licensing requirements could lead to legal issues.
  3. Data Privacy and Security:
    • Countries may have data protection and privacy laws that impact the use of SIP trunks. For example, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union imposes strict rules on the transfer of personal data outside the EU. Similarly, other countries have their own data protection laws that may affect how SIP trunks can be used.
  4. Quality of Service (QoS) and Emergency Services:
    • Regulations may require that SIP trunk services meet certain quality standards and support emergency calling services (e.g., 911 in the US, 112 in the EU). These requirements can be challenging to meet when using a SIP provider based in another country.
  5. Tax and Financial Regulations:
    • There may be financial regulations or taxes applicable to the use of foreign telecommunications services. These can include taxes on telecommunications usage or specific levies for using foreign services.
  6. National Security and Monitoring:
    • Some countries have national security laws that require telecommunications traffic to be monitored or intercepted by local authorities. Using a SIP trunk provider based in another country might bypass these monitoring requirements, leading to potential legal issues.

Great information @Drain Bamaged , this does have many other restrictions. Thank you for sharing.

To get a Dubai number you must have a physical presence in UAE. To use 3cx with the UK number in Dubai, there's no limitation. Although strictly speaking it breaks the law

If you have legally registered company in both countries then you can run two separate 3cx in each locations, connect local sip trunk to local 3cx. but you can bridge both 3cx for company internal communications.
