Unable to upgrade firmware on multiple phones at once

3CX Version - 20.0.5.551
OS Variant - Linux
Phone Model - Yealink T58W

I noticed there is a firmware update available for our phones. I then went under admin panel, phones, selected multiple phones (between 7 and 4, I tried multiple times), and clicked the "Upgrade" button. No matter what I tried, it would only upgrade 2 random phones from the ones I selected, leaving the rest unupgraded. Am I doing something wrong? Upgrading 2 phones at a time will be very time consuming, as we have over 80 phones, all same make and model. Is there a way I can upgrade more than 2 phones a once? How do I do it? What is the limit? All of the phones and the 3CX server reside on a 1Gbps local network, which should be sufficient to upgrade many more phones than just 2. I checked the logs, and did not find anything there. Please help.

I am having the same issue. Most of the time no phone firmware will upgrade. Issue started with V20. I ended up logging into each Yealink phone and manually upgrading.

You would think so but it might not actually be sufficient if you hammer it with 80 phones simultaneously trying to grab a 718 megabytes firmware file (yes it's that big unfortunately). One T58W is equivalent to fifteen T46U phones just to put it into perspective.

There is no hard and fast rule about limits, it's whatever your network, machine, and IP phones can handle at a given time. If you see them failing, then do a few at time, using your own judgement.

Hmmm i thought im the only one having this issue. When i try to upgrade 3rd t44u, it will always hit with internal server error. So i just let the 1st phone upgraded to be completed before i hit the upgrade on the 3rd.

It is time consuming to deploy on 50 IP Phone environment

I tried between 4 and 7 phones. I have a hard time believing that 1Gbps network cannot have the upgrade of 4 phones, especially with multicast.
 
~250 phones -- 95% t43u.... 5% t54w

upgrading firmware 5 devices at a time... I think when I finish, the next firmware will be released already. Why can't this be done automatically at night -- even 5 devices at a time, if done automatically would probably be done in 1 night....

Or do I keep doing 5 devices on the phones page and then making coffee and refresh and do 5 more and make coffee... repeat... too much caffeine
 
Do you get any errors in 3CX when you click the upgrade or is it just the phones giving up during the upgrade attempt?

For the reasons mentioned above. If you define a time it will attempt to upgrade multiple phones at once and you will come in to a lovely collection of bricks in the morning, and somehow it will be our fault again.

We let the admin decide when to upgrade the phones, and how many to do in each batch.

I do mention this during our training webinars and live trainings. Start in small batches and see how much your network can handle.

Its not just the network, but it is also your server that has to churn out the file through the network.

there are many factors coming into play here. Disk speed, if it is an SSD, CPU and memory used.

You would be surprised to see how many underspecced machines are out there in the wild and people expecting them to work flawlessly.
 
we can get almost a full page of 50 phones to go at once with our higher end systems running larger spec disk/ram. the smaller ones maybe 15 ish. also depends on customer's bandwidth, they don't all have 1 gig pipes to the internet so it's very dynamic!
 
Ahh... I see the issue is actually where the instance is hosted. In my case, I don't have much control over the instance and what bandwidth they can give me. I can live with 6 phones at a time....
