I have a YeaLink T42s on 66.83.0.30. According to the configuration guide, being below x.84.0.35, I need to manually upgrade to x.84.0.35 first and then upgrade to something newer. I have downloaded the 66.84.0.35 firmware that is listed below that note and tried to install it on the phone via the web portal as well as putting it on a USB, booting the phone while holding the speaker key and choosing USB.

When trying via web portal it says Firmware update failed! Network Error Rebooting, please wait...
When trying via USB, it says Update failed (-1)

Does anyone have an idea as to what I am doing wrong?

Hi Brian,

The current firmware is very outdated, you might have to contact Yealink and get all the in-between versions and upgrade your phone to the latest, one version at a time.

You can also try the versions you find here but if that doesn't help then you will need to contact Yealink Support and ask them to assist you.

Make sure it has been factory reset before you start, just to be on the safe side and to avoid any issues that could arise from current phone settings.

From 3CX's documentation, I needed to go to 66.84.0.35 first. I tried that but it didn't work. The company we are using to manage our 3CX environment believe the current version is actually a custom firmware and that could be the issue. They suggested try "upgrading" down to a lower firmware and then going back up but that fails as well.

Is factory resetting in the web portal the same as holding the OK button for 5 seconds and then resetting it on the phone? And Factory resetting only resets it to the unmodified firmware version, not to another version that was previously on the phone. Correct?

The last interaction I had this morning with YeaLink was sending them the diagnostic logs from it. To this point, it has taken 4-5 days and they only respond once a day. I am hoping they can find a solution soon as this is the only thing holding us back and I would rather not replace all our phones if possible.

The reset does not touch the firmware, only the settings are erased. Similarly to how wiping your smartphone will remove your user data, but the firmware currently installed on the device does not change. It stays the same.

If you do have custom firmware, the odds are it will reject other versions, so speaking with Yealink is the right way to go.
Let us know how it goes when you get a reply.

So I was able to get one up to 66.84.0.35 and then up to 66.86.0.15 before I realized I needed 66.86.0.05 instead. I was able to downgrade it and that is now on 66.86.0.05 as it should be.

I have 2 other phones that I got up to up to 66.84.0.35 but I can't get it to install anything else. Every time I try to update it, I get the following error:

Update failed(-5)

Any thoughts?

None at all I'm afraid, but try connecting your PC to the phone's second LAN port (usually labelled "PC").

This is a more direct network path to your phone. Then factory reset it, and login the the Web UI using incognito/private window with no browser plugins active. This is just as a precaution to ensure the firmware upload is not impeded in any way.

I figured out the issue without the help of YeaLink (not very helpful). Our old service provider never released the MAC addresses from their provisioning servers even though they claimed they did. Once they did, the phones updated like normal.

That makes sense now, they were provisioning from their old server and they must have had upgrades disabled.

Glad to hear it was solved Brian!
