Hi Team,
As it mentioned i am having issues upgrading a google hosted VM with 2VCPU 8 GB Ram and 8GB free disk space.
i am getting this error when i try to upgrade

Your 3CX Debian OS failed to update
3CX Phone System Management Console ID: 10012
I have rebooted the VM, ensured i have a user set as system owner., completed a full backup and have it stored off the VM.

Its doing my head in. Is my next step rebuilding it and restoring the backup?
If so im considering leaving google. What is another good cloud VM option?
Cheers
Anthony

When an upgrade attempt fails, the admin will receive an email with a log attached called debian10to12.log.

The error can be seen within this log.

It will look like this.

"result": "aborted",
"time": "20-05-2025 18:56:38",
"title": "Apt issue detected",
"message": "There seems to be an issue with the system's sources. Please run apt update manually and see what needs to be fixed."

This indicates an issue with sources that are specified in the sources list of the 3CX system OS.

Therefore, you will check on the Google machine for these issues and fix them or take a full backup of the 3CX system, download it, and switch this current machine off.

Then, redeploy to a new machine, either Google or wherever you like, via the 3CX portal install, and restore your backup.

Please also ensure to check the requirements: https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/v20-upgrade-checklist-faq/

Thank you Charles
I can only see this in the log which doesnt tell me much

"result": "Upgrade",
"time": "20-05-2025 21:17:35",
"title": "Package Update Failed",
"message": "An error occurred while upgrading package: update"
}
[31m[21:17] Upgrade: Package Update Failed - 0[39m

Would you be interested in looking at the log with me?

It’s best to taking a full backup of the 3CX system, downloading it, and switching off the current machine.

Then, redeploy the system to a new machine, either Google or wherever you prefer, using the 3CX portal and upload the backup to restore it.

Hi Charles
for v18 to update to v20 from full backup to restore to new do you have link for steps for fail safe operation?
thanks

There is no difference in the procedure than if you need to transfer the configuration to another machine.

So if you have ever taken a backup and restored a machine there is literally no difference in this procedure.

Just start the installation process and select the option to restore from a backup.
