Hi All:

I am using two Grandstream GXW-4104's for a total of 8 analog trunks. I've set the DIDs for one of the gateways according to the configuration guide (www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/grandstream-fxo/) and was able to successfully route my FAX line to the FAX Server using the corresponding trunk''s DID.

I had originally loaded the trunk DNs into the DID field but the call did not route correctly until I put in the "000000", "000001", etc.

OK, here are my questions:

1) Can I assume only 6 digits are allowed in the DID field? Can they be less/more than 6 digits?
2) Must they be 000000 thru 000003 or can I use another 6 digit number? (would like to use at least the XXXX of the trunk DN)
3) I don't see a correlation between these specified DIDs and anything in the gateway settings so it appears to be a 3CX specific requirement - Correct?
4) I'd like the ability to route incoming calls on the other gateway - if 000000, etc., are required, how do I make it work on the second gateway if those numbers are the only ones "allowed" and will be duplicative.

Thanks for reading - looking forward to hearing more details.

BR, Bill

You can use any numbers you want, even the actual PSTN numbers, assigned to the individual phone lines. It's just that the DID number being sent must match to a DID rule. If you want, you could use 00001,00002, 00003, 00004 on the first gateway, and 00005, 00006, 00007 and 00008 on the second, again, just be sure to create DID rules that match those numbers.

Thank you sir!

As I said, I had originally programmed the DIDs with the actual PSTN DNs but the call did not route correctly (Hence my questions)

I was pretty sure I could use the PSTN DN... I will use your feedback, reprogram and test it out later this week.

I don't think that would work to be honest, you would have to use 000000, 000001, 000002, 000003, for every FXO device meaning you'll need to create the same 4 DIDs on both gateways because both gateways will send these four DIDs based on what physical port the call came in through.

Thanks, Chris...

Have not tested the DN's yet but given what you said, can the system differentiate between the duplicative DIDs?

Can I assume that when creating a rule one would have to know that the first set of "generic" DIDs are on the first gateway, the second set on the second gateway and so on?

Also, can I assume an 8 port FXO would go up to "000007"? (not that I am using one but it seems logical)

That also, does not make sense to me, as many people, to keep things straight, may use the actual phone number of the PSTN line, as the DID (and by extension, the DID rule in 3CX). So in the case of 2, four port gateways, you would not want to duplicate the DID numbers.

The 3CX generated config for the gateway is only for 4 ports.

If you want to avoid manual configuration of the gateway and want to use the 3CX generated config you would have to use DIDs 000000-000003 for both gateways as described previously.

Then you will have to edit the both Gateways Inbound Parameters to look like this:

This will have the 3CX PBX check both the DID and the Gateway's IP to identify the source of the call and route it correctly. Since the gateways will be using different IPs, the fact that the DIDs are the same will not matter.
