I am a pastor, not an IT guy, trying to migrate the 3CX system we've been using for ten years from v11 (I know, shame on us) to v15.5 on Windows 7 (for ultimate transfer to v16 on Windows 10 Pro). I successfully did the backup/restore routine to v12 and v12.5. However, when I try v14 it does not take me all the way to the setup wizard. It installs the program -- I can open v14 like an initial install -- and sequences through the Initializing 3CX Cloud Server. But after Initializing Instance Server there is a message that goes by too quickly to read and then the Cloud Server dialogue box disappears but I never get a follow-on setup wizard that lets me install the backup. Help.

If you still have your v12.5 backup it may be worth trying to uninstall v14 and reboot then re-install.

I did do that. I also try loading v14 on a difference computer running Windows 10 and it does the same thing.

I apologize as I am not familiar with v14, does that come up during the install wizard? I just tried to install v14 on my windows 10 desktop and it came up as it should when I put the address in on port 5001 in the web browser.

Did you get an option to restore a backup as part of the install/setup?

If memory serves I believe in v14 you get an empty pbx and then use the restore function with the v12.5 backup.

Also I think you can take a 12.5 backup file and restore it into 15.5 directly bypassing v14, but you don't get your call history.

So if you can't find the restore option within the empty v14 try installing v15.5 and while installing v15.5 pick the 12.5 backup file.

I installed v15.5. But when I tried to restore my v12.5 backup, I got a message that said it had to be a v14 backup. Apparently I will need to go through v14 - which still does not give me a user setup wizard where I can restore my backup.

When I installed I don't recall it asking to restore. I would try to install 14 as a new system and then restore once it is up.

Did try that. v14 is the first time I've seen Backup and Restore on the management console instead of having to go to the 3CX program files. But in the B&R option on v14 as a new system, the Backup button is available but the Restore button is grayed out and not available.

Try logging out of 3CX and copying the backup file(s) to this location on that computer: C:\ProgramData\3CX\Instance1\Data\Backups

After that log in and see if the restore button is available.

Thank you, @jcostlow! Manually placing the v12.5 backup in the location you provided made the restore button work.
