Solved V16 Update 8A - manual or automatic update?

Hi All,

I realize I have left this for the last moment, but I had a question about this process. I do not want to move to version 18 just yet- I had planned to do this late spring/early summer. So, I have had issues with patches in the past where I had to allow it to update automatically b/c manual updates did not work. So, I switch on automatic updates when I want to update and then switch it off once the updates are done.
My question is if I leave the system on automatic update, will it attempt to automatically update to version 18?

Also, from what I have read it looks like people are not having problems with manual update with this patch- is this pretty much across the board that the manual update process is good? I assume it might be b/c it seems like a pretty simple patch.
FYI, I am using the Debian version.

Yes, if you enable 'automatic updates' and you used the ISO image to create the 3CX server it will update to debian 10 and 3CX version 18.

Keep 'automatic updates' enabled as this is the process 3CX will push out any security updates for debian

But if I keep it enabled, won't it just apply the updates whenever the updates come out? I don't want updates installed immediately... I would prefer to control when I install updates.

So is it possible to safely install this patch manually through the 3cx through the update console on the Debian version?

We had been doing manual updates for our clients before discovering the limitation @Saqqara mentioned, and never had a problem. We didn't install this latest v16 update though, as we have been on v18 for a while.

I thought at v18 release they had said auto-updates would not upgrade to v18 but I have no idea if that changed, so you may not want to depend on that.

If you stay on 16 just make a note of when various services get turned off, such as v16 web meeting servers in March.

Ok, thanks for the info. I assume you are on Debian also.

Thanks about the warning regarding the meeting servers- we don't use those so we should be good.

I seem to remember that they said something about it not upgrading to v18 on auto updates now that you mention it. I wonder if that is true...?

To confirm, automatic updates won't upgrade you to the next major version releases automatically. i.e no v16 -> v18. They also won't auto install Alpha/Beta updates.
