I tried to do an upgrade von V18 to V20 on my selfhosted Instance and first I got an email that the Update of the OS was successful but 3CX was still at V18. I tried again to click the Upgrade Button and now I get the error message that the attempt to update the OS failed. Strangely enough the OS is now on Debian 12.

How can I upgrade 3CX now?

Thank for any ideas.

Here is the part of the failed log that seems to be the issue:

You upgrade is broken and you need to backup and restore to get a working v20. Did you installed the v18 from ISO? Are there any other stuff installed on this server? Did the hardware match the requirements?

V18 was installed from ISO, there was no other software installed and the hardware matches the requirements.

Ok, than there should be no problem. Anyway, you need to reinstall from ISO and restore your backup from v18.

OMG, this is really messed up :(

Just restore your backup to v20, job done.

I installed from the ISO and restored the backup, but now the public FQDN has the wrong IP address, my whole setup is messed up, and my phone system is down. What a nightmare.

Restart services. DNS should update in no time.

OK, I did that, and that fixed at least that issue—but now the 3CX Windows App (and mobile app) do not work as before. We can't see the extensions anymore, even though the app says "On Hook." Why?

Every user needs to do this now, even when they NEVER use the webclient? I just tried it with my user and it does not change anything for my desktop app or the mobile app.

are you using yhr new app? That was for web client specifically

what new app? all of my users have the windows desktop app installed since years? same with the mobile app?

V20 app from MS store

what about the mobile app? is there an additional app for v20?

Honestly, this new Windows app is very bad compared to the old one. There is no way to resize the window, and generally, the UX is just bad. This whole upgrade is a big step back...

All of my users who use the mobile app have issues now because the presence display, recent calls, and voicemail display do not work anymore.

If you're not satisfied, either develop your own application !
3CX does not prevent you from connecting to the phone system using your own SIP application.
Your comment clearly shows that you do not understand the differences between various applications.

Refrain from making disrespectful remarks about developers. Transitioning to a Microsoft Store application has many advantages but also has its small drawbacks. Nothing is perfect...

The main strength is security and reliability. Applications from the Microsoft Store are sandboxed and cannot freely interact with the operating system or other applications, which reduces the risk of malware. Moreover, Microsoft reviews all applications before they are published in the Store, protecting against supply chain hacks. The updates are generally much simpler because Windows can manage them automatically.

So yes, you are right, it's not possible (for now) to resize apps, but... the ability to connect with a username, password, and URL is really efficient, the UX has been modernized and is much more user-friendly.

Instead of insulting the work of a company that has been selected by SourceForge as a leader for summer 2024.

Also, you clearly haven't read the forum rules!

This is simply because your users have likely provisioned their applications incorrectly, using HTTP URLs instead of HTTPS!

All you need to do is ensure that the user has made all the necessary updates on their phones and the 3CX app, and then scan the QR code available on their WebClient. It's really quite straightforward. I've conveyed these instructions to a company with 250 employees who aren't very tech-savvy (not working with computers daily). Do you know what? 100% of them managed to do it.

You are right. My words were harsh, but I have been fighting this upgrade for almost four hours and have a bunch of angry users because their apps won't work anymore the same way they did before. This was supposed to be easy, and it's not. It costs me hours of my time to make sure the phone system is back to its former status.

This is exactly why 3CX partners exist! If it were really easy... we wouldn't have jobs!

Yes, a 3CX partner will likely charge for their expertise... but you benefit from their experience. They'll know how to respond to various challenges and may have even encountered them before.

For example, we always perform a simulation of the update before proceeding. A snapshot allows for a quick rollback. The expertise of partners also includes having installed the NFR version well before, which could help you anticipate challenges.

In summary, clients who absolutely want to avoid paying for a partner's services must face the reality that their time will be required to analyze, compare, and anticipate challenges. I've always said that clients who do not want a partner should opt for a turnkey solution such as SMB or Hosted by 3CX.

Yes, 3CX is very user-friendly, but it's important to remember that it's installed on an OS that is not designed by 3CX.
Imagine if you had been on Windows... it would have been much worse. Fortunately, you are on Linux!

I'm not sure why you encountered issues during the update; only the logs could have shed light on that. But keep in mind that 3CX hosts thousands of PBXs and doesn't experience this issue. We're talking about two major updates here:

- Debian v10 to Debian v11
- Debian v11 to Debian v12.

Personally, every time I've encountered a update problem, after investigation, two common scenarios emerge:

1. `apt-get update` + `apt-get upgrade` was performed in the past using the command line, which disrupted the control of 3CX's automation, either through a prompt or a required confirmation.

2. Permissions have changed due to file manipulation, perhaps via SFTP.

In any case, normally, when systems comply with the conditions set by 3CX, everything goes smoothly. But as soon as an unplanned manipulation is made, it can quickly become a nightmare, not because of 3CX... but due to the OS update.
