Last night I did a fresh install of v20 and uploaded our v18 backup. Now, after seeing all these issues and bugs I learned v20 is not released yet and 1494 is still in early development state. That's really not good because it doesn't show that way on the v18 console, it looks like a fully released version. Also when downloading the new ISO from the customer portal I saw no hint that it's not production ready.

We are using 3X Pro On-Premise at five of our companies since many years and luckily I only upgraded one of these five so far so I'll be going back to v18 tonight with the one already upgraded.

Anyway, these are the bugs/issues:
- Our Patton Gateway for fax (yes, we are located in Germany, we still use fax ) shows in trunks a red, fax no longer works, editing of the gateway is not possible
- I can no longer edit our service provider trunk. When I click on edit it simply switches to the teams view (we use "Deutsche Telefon" as trunk that used to be officially supported by 3CX, now it's not anymore due to really strange "political" decisions)
- We can no longer edit user/group permissions, only a few - honestly pointless - predefined roles are available that can't be configured
- There is no "Parameters" section anymore where we can activate UaCSTA / CTI for our Snom Multi-Cell DECT phones
- Inbound rules are gone

That's only from what I noticed this morning and that is affecting us.

I understand some of that is actually supposed to go to the production version like this.
In all these years we learned that you have to be rather "open minded" (to use a positive sounding term) with 3CX and significant changes between versions that force users to change the way they work but I do not recall such a significant feature reduction. This time both admins and users are negatively affected.

Is there a roadmap somewhere where I can see what's planned for the future?
What of those features will make it back to v20?

Btw, this is what it shows on one of our V18 installations:

Hello,
Indeed, I acknowledge that it's unfortunate it's not obvious that version 20 is only in Release Candidate stage.

Regardless, it has moved beyond beta to RC.

That's why it's crucial for clients to collaborate with a trained 3CX Partner who stays updated with 3CX news. Partners (and clients) can keep informed through [ https://www.3cx.com/blog/ ]. Webinars are also available. Following various forum topics is equally important.

I understand if you don't have the time, which is why you should entrust this responsibility to a partner whose duty it is to stay informed.

Everything you've mentioned has already been discussed in blog posts or forum threads. This is not new.

Personally, for a system as vital as telephony, when I see a "major update"... I do a Google search before proceeding. When there's a major iOS update (like iOS16 to iOS17), I take the time to get informed, read, listen to Apple's webinar, etc. Next time, entrust this task to someone who is informed or keep up with the news feed.

To address your various remarks;

issues:
- Our Patton Gateway for fax (yes, we are located in Germany, we still use fax ) shows in trunks a red, fax no longer works, editing of the gateway is not possible
This is not a bug.
Back in Update1 or Update2

- I can no longer edit our service provider trunk. When I click on edit it simply switches to the teams view (we use "Deutsche Telefon" as trunk that used to be officially supported by 3CX, now it's not anymore due to really strange "political" decisions)
This is not a bug.
This is due to the change in logic associated with departments.
Delete and recreate. If the template no longer exists, use a generic template.

- We can no longer edit user/group permissions, only a few - honestly pointless - predefined roles are available that can't be configured
This is not a bug.
The permissions table can be found here:
https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/access-roles/
A quick search in the forum reveals many discussion threads on this topic.

If this negatively affects you, we recommend expressing your concerns to a 3CX partner who can create a topic on this page to gather votes. 3CX reviews submitted ideas based on logic, vote count, company vision, and feasibility without needing a complete overhaul.

This doesn't guarantee implementation, but it's the right channel to address the issue to the appropriate parties.

There is no "Parameters" section anymore where we can activate UaCSTA / CTI for our Snom Multi-Cell DECT phones
Same FXS

Inbound rules are gone
The logic has changed; now, you configure the DIDs in the destination.
CID will return in RC3 or Update1.

Please try to read the blog posts or assign a partner to keep you informed.

Hi MS-FUT,

Thank you for sharing your perspective.

I respectfully disagree with your points on this matter. The challenges you've mentioned have indeed been communicated through various channels such as blog posts and newsletters for some time. Additionally, it's worth considering that the decision not to collaborate with a 3CX-Reseller may have played a significant role in the situation you currently face.

Regarding the Patton/Gateway issue, I would like to direct your attention to a blog post dated December 19th, 2023.

Regarding User/Group Permissions and the Parameter Section, it appears that designating a "System-Owner" before upgrading to v20 has not been done. For more information, please refer to the blog post concerning the v20 Checklist released on January 16th, 2024.

It's important to note that while we do provide the capability to change parameters, doing so renders your installation unsupported. This also applies when using an unsupported 3CX SIP-Trunk Provider, whereas the cooperation with DTS ended roughly 5 Years ago...
You can find our support procedures outlined here.

We have consistently communicated that V20 is still in the release candidate phase and should not be used in productive environments.

Lastly, it's important to consider whether it is fair to attribute blame to others for issues that may be a result of one's own actions or decisions.

If you require assistance, please don't hesitate to send me a direct message. I would be happy to provide guidance or connect you with an experienced Reseller to help resolve your situation.

Kindly,

Marcos

Hi Guillaume and Marcos,

Thank you both for your answers!

Even though I understand it is easy to blame the customer in not seeking support I may remind you both that an essential part in advertising 3CX pbx in official communication from 3CX is the easiness of installing/maintaining the phone system. Especially mentioning IT departments in advertising.
That for me as a customer means I do not have to do extensive research in advance. So why not place a link on the page where the update shows that points to all these limitations? Don't you think that wold be a sensible thing to do? Especially if important features are missing?

And regarding feature requests (like for roles): Honestly, I believe there is hardly any new professional software you can buy nowadays which doesn't have role-based permissions and where you can't add or customize roles. I guess that's hard to explain why this has been removed in 3CX.
And I'm not sure why I would need to contact a partner to put in a feature request. Yes, we have only a few small Pro systems. Yes, we don't spend a fortune on 3CX. But without knowing your customer base I'd expect comany sizes like ours with the size up to 100 employees like hours might make a significant share of your income so why not allow these customers to raise feature requests? But that's a different topic and not v20 related. Sorry for that.

Regarding DTS - We have been on 3CX and DTS long before the support was dropped by 3CX. Would you change your phone provider that provides good and stable service, best prices in competition? I guess not.
So why saying "this is not supported"? Then why not ditching the option to add custom providers completely? Possibly because we still pay license fees? But that's also not v20.

So if I delete the trunk and recreate it to be able to edit it again that would mean everything assigned to the trunk will be pointing to nowhere and will have to be investigated afterwards. And creating a new trunk will not show all the necessary options/parameters in v20 that I had set in the past to make DTS working smoothly.

So, by previous post may have been emotional.
But honestly - with those two answers it's difficult to remove some of the emotions especially if this text comes from a staff member:
Lastly, it's important to consider whether it is fair to attribute blame to others for issues that may be a result of one's own actions or decisions.

Anyway... rolling back tonight.
Then I'll follow the blog that was linked above and wait for posts that say the ditched features are implemented again.
And tomorrow, after a good night of sleep and when I see everything is in order again with v18 I'll be a lot happier. And less emotional. ;)
