Hello,

currently we´re evaluating 3CX phone system (on premise). Looking at the web meeting/conferencing settings, it seems only possible to use an external MCU. Does the 3CX PBX contain an internal MCU? We are not allowed to transmit any voice/video/documents externally becaufe of privacy protection. So, when using the on premise version of 3CX phone system we need the whole PBX to work without any internet connection. Is this possible?

Regards
CJ

Hello @CJBF

Please note that currently the PBX does not contain an internal MCU and you can only use the webmeeting with the available external MCU's.
Also the PBX requires a internet connection for various functions. For example if you are using a 3CX FQDN you need an internet connection to renew the certificate. Also firmware, templates and any kind of updates require an internet connection. Finally the PBX requires an internet connection to check the licence at random intervals.

Thanks! In our case we will have our own FQDN, own certificates. For software updates and license checking it would be possible to open firewall temporarily. Is there a roadmap for getting MCU functionality into 3CX?

Would it be possible to add another MCU to 3CX, i.e. by editing some configuration file by hand?
What about the MCU 3CX uses for the PBX currently. What do you use? Is it possible to purchase it from you to get it running locally? If it´s from another vendor, can you give us information plus configuration files for it? As mentioned before we´re evaluatig 3CX. Calculating with your recommendation we´d buy the enterprise license with 256 to 512 concurrent calls. If a local MCU isn´t possible somehow, that would be a show stopper.

Please note that having a local web meeting MCU has been discussed internally for a future release however i cannot guarantee when or if this will ever be implemented.
I would recommend posting your idea on https://www.3cx.com/community/forums/3cx-ideas/ . All posts are reviewed by their corresponding Departments and, if feasible and voted for by other users as well, may be implemented in an upcoming service pack or update.
